I clean and lube the chain every week.
No point lubing it if you don’t clean it first - you need to get the gritty stuff off first because it’s like grinding paste.
Unlike many others, these days I just use whatever engine oil I’ve got lying about in the garage to lube it - does the job and cost a lot less than chain lube.
I spray the 6 inches or so that are on my rear sprocket every morning before riding off, just with a dry PTFE lube. Takes ten seconds while the bike is warming up. I do about 80 miles a day every day so I try to do all I can to keep stuff like this in order.
Actually do a proper clean and lube every few weeks when I remember My chains last forever.
Yep, Scottoiler. My chain is about halfway down the marks after 20,100 miles, I’ve adjusted it 6 times since new. I clean the side plates every time I wash the bike just to keep the surface rust off.
When I told someone that I always cleaned my chain before re-lubing it they looked at me oddly and asked why!! I use the chain wax stuff, gets quite messy if you just keep topping it up!! Nice to know that it’s not just me excercising my OCD
My chain gets a thorough clean and lube on a weekly basis and i use Wurth High Performance Lube as it doesn’t fling off so keeping my wheel free of crap.
Chain is cleaned with a tooth brush and chain cleaner/parafin and WD40 then coated in Lube. It’s now done 14k miles but will prob need changing next service as there are a few tight spots.
