Hey folks,
Need to have the big service done soon and the cam chain tensioner replaced.
I’ve been quoted £560 at a dealer and ‘about’ £400 at Bats. Awful lot of money so going to do as much as I can myself and perhaps get a mobile mechanic to do the valve clearances and possibly the tensioner, as I won’t have the shims etc.
Anybody know where I can get parts cheaply, particularly the tensioner?
Cheers.
Y’know…having done that job on the Zephyr, and knowing how much work it is and how easy it’d be to get wrong…I’d just pay the money! You’re looking at a decent amount for just the parts anyway, and it’s a lot of work.
Nah… there’s nothing scary about servicing - the nastiest bit is doing the valve shims, but that’s just because it takes a long time and you need to buy shims.Cam chain tensioner is a piece of ****, and will have to come out to do the shims anyway.
TBH, the bulk of the service cost would be the shims - it’ll be £200 on it’s own, minimum. It’s well worth taking the time to do it yourself - just give yourself a clear day to get on with it and take your time.
Only 16K & the cam chain tensioner’s fubar’d already ?!?!
've built car engines before so hopefully not too different.
Anybody got any ideas where I can get the parts cheap???
