CB500 with Broken Engine

The engine in my CB500 is shot. What should I do next?

  1. Get a repacement engine fitted in a private garage. (Any idea how much this would cost)

  2. Sell it on ebay for spares / repair.

  3. Push it to bike meets, sit on it and push it home when everbody has left.

I’ve been advised that it ran dry of oil and that it will need a new crank, con rods and a big end bearing. This will cost £1200 in parts alone which is an “un economic repair.”

Any advice would be really appreciated. The moral of the story is check your damn oil. I could have done this weekly during my rideout prep, oil chain, polish mirrors etc but didn’t and now it’s broken.

Damn mate!! *goes out to check oil…

have a look on ebay for an engine… :ermm:
if it will cost you that much to repair then perhaps buy a new (old) one…

When you say it is shot what is wrong with it?

Give me some bike details and i’ll look into for you, I can undertake the work at a fraction of the cost of an independant garage.

i think he means he is looking for a CBF500

“need a new crank, con rods and a big end bearing.” Presumably if it ran out oil then the originals would probably have overheated and warped (i’m only guessing here; I’m no Adz!).

There are 7 going on Ebay

All sorted now,
Thanks for your custom

Nice work Ricky.

Should be plenty of ok CB500 engines around - Seems Ricky is on the case!

Yes in short Ricky fixed it. Praise thread is here.

You should have asked him to fix the hole in your exhaust too :w00t:;)

It’s supposed to sound like that :w00t: noisy bugger aint it
