Well a great start to my day today Get called into work for overtime hmm its just gone midday and ive been here since 7am so i reckon that im only now actually earning money after my early morning experience.
Yep caught fair and square i guess youd say speed trap bloke in bush on the dual carriage way at Charlton i always forget its 30mph and take it as being 40 so doing 45mph ill take the £60 fine & 3 points on the chin i guess
But theres one thing worrying me and hopefully you helpful people will be able to put me straight , Firstly these are the first ever points ive had on my licence ive had a motorcyle licence for 8 years.
Last year i learned to drive so now im classed as a new driver i got given the leaflet about the New Drivers road traffic act where if i get 6 points in the first two years i have to retake my Car test
Ive been searching the web for answers as to if these points i picked up today on the bike count towards the 6 points im allowed in the car and its just confused me even more so Is there anyone out there who knows , surely there must be more people in a similair position to me.
All i can find is the link below i read it once and thought well erm it dosnt apply to me.
then i read it again and think it might i guess im going to have to phone them
Obviously the best thing is not to accumilate any more points but id like to reassure myself that im not inline for a retest on my car if i pick up another 3 points
See, i only just got my bike licence and had a similar scare - got away with it thank god- and i took this new driver stuff to be about your “first driving licence” which i would take as in my case , my car one and in your case, your bike one. Since you have had the bike one for 8 yrs you should be fine, as you car entitlement is an addition to your exisiting 8 year driving licence…
Not sure though, woudl be interested to know what they say if you phone them…
I wondered the same after passing my bike test a couple of months back, whether the new driver act would apply to me as I passed my car test 14 years ago.
I phoned the DVLA and they told me that as I wasn’t a ‘new driver’ i.e. had held another type of licence for more than 2 years, then it didn’t apply.
That was how i thought it should be but then i suddenly doubted it when i remembered the examiner giving me the New Driver leaflet after i passed my car test telling me to be careful.
Yum 9 more points left going to make sure i get out of work early so i can take it easy on the way home in future im going to be extra careful on quiet early sunday mornings
Having read the legislation it does look like it is only your first full license that the 6 points applies to. However, that didn’t stop both an Elite instructor and a riding examiner who had both seen my 100% clean car license of 17 years trying to tell me I would lose my bike license if I got six points.
I can confirm that the two year rule applies only to NEW UK licence holders.
Your car licence is merely an ADDITION to an already exsisting licence i.e your ‘A’ Bike licence.
This also applies in reverse, for example you have a car licence and passed your bike test last week the two year rule still does NOT apply as the bike entitlement is merely an addition to your already substantiated ‘B’ car licence.
all you are doing is adding further entitlements to your substantiated licences.
The boss is letting me go home early soon so im going to take it nice and easy on the way home cant wait for the visit to the police station tomorrow to give them my licence
thanks again for the information all not that i like driveing all that much but i wouldnt want to lose my licence so soon after getting it so its relief all round
You are truely correct and i thank you for pointing out that im not a new driver , and i will sleep well tonight , as for the naughty boy bit i just wish maybe i got my 1st ever 3 points in a more exciting way or there again maybe i dont
