Anybody with a pair of trainers and a spot of time to kill this Friday? Fancy a massive game of capture the flag with several hundred people in Spitalfields at eight pm?
Essentially, what happens is this: People divide themselves into two teams, each team establishes a territory in which they place a flag. Each flag is then defended against attempted capture by ‘apprehending’ members of the capturing team who are then sent to a pre-designated ‘gaol’ where they must wait to be freed by a team member. Obviously, once in enemy territory you become vulnerable to capture and sent to their gaol.
Successfully captured flags score points etc etc etc, most of the people who go are useless hippy-type people who eat, drink and smoke bizarre things and consequently tend to be less fit than your average seventy-year-old so fitness really isn’t an issue (last game I captured twenty people and one flag - and I am to exercise what Morrisey is to big game hunting!)
The police are usually really co-operative, and there’s generally a police presence to ensure things don’t get out of hand; it promises to be a really fun evening.
