Quantum of solace…
The smallest amount you can love someone. Apparently according to Bond himself when interviewd the other day.

Kind of open to interpretation really, quantum means quantity and solace is sorrow/hardship… bit of a cop out on behalf of the writer I think. 
An alternative translation is “Complete c*ck”. Not necessarily the movie, just the title.
The short story (nothing to do with the film) was published in one of the papers last weekend.
Bond is being entertained one boring evening by the ambassador following a successful mission. The entire story is the ambassador telling the tale of one of his geeky colleagues who fell in love with an air hostess who he married. He was obsessed with her and completely devoted. In time she embarrassed him through her behaviour and her affairs. Her continuing humiliation of him caused his love for her to drop below the quantum solace - the point at which there no longer is any love, indeed, and regard for that person asa human being at all. He then exacts his revenge by manufacturing events so she was completely humiliated and left destitute. In all, no action and very depressing.
Remember this has nothing not do with the film. They have just used the title as they are running out of Bond titles so for some time have recycled the names of stories to use in films with completely different plots.
Who cares what it means ? it’s a rubbish title for a Bond film.
