Calliper seals are expensive aren't they. . .

Kawasaki rider reduced to penury after spending life savings on brake calliper rebuild. . . :stuck_out_tongue:

I know how you feel, had to rebuild the front to for a 636 and cost about £80 if I remember rightly. All for some poxy little rubber gaskets and gromits.

It’s cost me a bit more than that (doing the rear as well - in for a penny etc) - the brakes are in a shite state and I’m fitting braided lines etc - so want to do a proper job - still eye watering spend for little rubber seals - even though the kwak dealer told me that they were prescision engineered and going to my local plumbing supplies shop wasn’t an option :stuck_out_tongue:

Much more satisfying when you shell out for trick cans and suspension -as these are big and shiny and can be shown off!

Shoulda gone to Wemoto mate.Complete set of front seals For 2 calipers for all 12 pistons + seals between Caliper bodies and bleed nipple caps £57.50 and £19.33 for the rear:w00t:http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=1914597

Goddamit - I bought OE parts again! :doze:

Thanks for the link  next time. . .

This parts picing thing is getting complicated.

Wemoto had the most expensive iridium plugs of all for my bike. More than Halfords.

Meanwhile, a trade mate of mine swears by them.

No change then, you still have to shop around.

I know what you mean - I phoned up my Kawasaki dealer and he said they had the seals in stock - so I got all excited :w00t: and zipped straight round there without bothering to compare prices. . .

BTW… the seals are cheaper from Suzuki…;)

. . .

;)

That does eem like a lot for seals, if I remember rightly you can get pattern 6 pot callipers brand new for not much over 100. Cant remember where I saw them, could be wemoto?

You can get nissin 6 pots for under £300, and they are the dog’s danglies

Hmmm I seem to be on a rather steep (and expensive) learning curve. . .

It’s still a fookin sting for a few washers (not that I’m bitter…)

The thing is, you should be ok just removing the fluid seals and cleaning the recesses theyAs long as they are thoroughly cleaned out, you should just be able to clean up the old seals in brake fluid and refit them. The dust seals I throw away…
I think the price is down to the fact that the fluid seals are shaped, and not something you can get at the local hydraulic service centre.

I guess it depends how much you value your hide.

These “few washers” could be the difference between you slamming into a wall and getting home safely:hehe:

The guy in the Kwak shop told me they were presiscion engineered to cheer me up when I burst into tears after getting the bill.

‘Theoretically’ :Whistling: these brakes are designed to stop a 160 mph motorcycle - so on balance you would expect the parts to be of a high order of manufacture and reliabbility - hence the cost.

you could have got some of these  nice guys as well

Looks interesting - thanks Kenny.
