Caliper piston seal saying hi

Some might recall not so long ago I was messing around with my rear caliper. Well, this isn’t it. This is the front one now.

I’ve noticed one of my pistons was stuck. As you can see in the photo, the seal (dust seal I guess?) is trying to escape. Is there a way to rectify this, or am I looking at a full rebuild? I did one about 3 years ago.

thats rebuild o’clock there

Choo choo all aboard! Next stop, rebuild station.

What we have here is a failure to maintain

To be fair, I did squirt some brake cleaner once in a while

Better check the other front caliper as well. I get the feeling I will be ordering two rebuild kits.

Brake cleaner isn’t magic, you need to get in there with the tooth brush and soapy water first. Too late now but for the future if you ain’t getting your hands dirty you ain’t doing it proper, the brake fluid is most likely well over 3% moisture too.

Oh, no doubt. I was mostly saying it in jest.
I tend to put off (as my name implies) simple things like this until it becomes a much more complicated and expensive job :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Looks like my other caliper is not looking too great either.

Can someone explain to me why all these piston push tools bend so easily?

It’s because the tool is weaker than the amount of fucked your seal is.

Touche.
Still giving me a David v Goliath vibe. A puny rubber seal against a massive metal tool.
