This morning, on my way to the Ace, I stopped for petrol just past Hammersmith. As I never go that area, and really don’t know my way around, I thought I better check. So before I set of I asked a cabbie who was filling up if the next big junction was the one to the north circular. He turned around and said “I don’t know where the that is”. I thought maybe he had misunderstood me, but he confirmed "he didn’t know where the north circular was and that I should ask somebody else.
Don’t tell me that you can be a black cab driver in the Hammersmith area and not find the North Circular. What a load of b*****s
Fortunatly there was another cabbie at a different pump who explained me it was the second roundabout …
He actually had some passengers. If I hadn’t been taken by surprise so much I would probably have told them they better find somebody who does know the road
Maybe he’d been lost for hours and that’s why he needed to fill up even though he had customers
Most are great in my experience, moving out the way for us for example, but some are just LAZY and uncooperative. Some are just outright dangerous with their disregard for looking before swinging their cabs across the roads.
Sounds like this cabbie in question was either having a bad day and just couldn’t be arsed, or had a bee in his bonnet.
Mmmm…Having worked in this trade as a controller for the last 18 years with 2,500 cabs you are bound to get the odd bad apple (as in all walks of life). A lot of them seem to think the world owes them a living once they’ve done the knowledge., but I tend to find the majority of them ok & it pays my mortgage.
