Burgman 400?

All of a sudden I want to get maxi scoot because I miss all the storage practicalities back when I had a 125 scooter.
Also because my GF has no confidence in going 2up on a proper bike because many years ago her ex BF managed to crash with her on it (twat).

I’ve been looking at the Suzuki Burgman 400
Almost every user review on it has been positive.

Things I really like are
62 litres of storage space
65mpg
Proven engine
Weather protection

The Burgman 650 is nice too but would be overkill for the amount of B-roading & filtering I do.

I’m hoping for something 2007-onwards because I hear they need less maintenance?

Anyone got buying advice for Burgman 400?
What sort of mileage is acceptable? Any info about the model years?

Thanks

Best place to ask is probably http://www.maxi-muppets.co.uk/ you’ll find are very own JohnP on there.

Burgman USA is the Burgman forum of record I understand.

You are right to avoid earlier 400s as they gulp oil when ridden hard by design!

You know that is incredibly stupid…but also very cool looking at the same time!

I seriously considered getting a Burgman400 as my local dealer had one in his shop for awhile and I really liked the look of it.

In the end I helped sell it to a couple from Eastern Europe who were deciding between that and a 125 scooter.

I ended up buying a Silverwing 600 instead of this Burgman. I have to say, I regretted it.

Most of my trips are through city traffic and the Silverwing was burning more fuel than a car (I had the worst MPG on fuelly).
Even when I did take the Silverwing out on the motorway I didn’t enjoy it much because of the small 13" wheels and poo suspension.

The Burgman 400 would of gave far better city economy and will happily do the my occasional motorway jaunt.

It had way more underseat storage too!

Bigger isn’t always better!

I reckon the sweet-spot of scooter commuting is around 250-300cc under a (not too big) maxi scoot body.
