Bung your smelly leathers in the w/machine!

I Did!

Not as clean as I had hoped, but cleaner and more importantly, smell fresh now! Mine were particularly grubby tho

I bought the Leder-Fein from David @ Solo Corse in Bury St Edmunds ( www.solocorse.co.uk )

Take more than one wash to get rid of the years of encrusted creatures stuck to your leathers!!:stuck_out_tongue:

ha ha…so you went ahead and did it eh?..

Remember us talking about lowering my bike? Called those people you said?..its gonna cost £400 odd…and i have to leave it with them, is that good? Hagans can do lower shocks for lot less?

You going to harwich this sunday?

funny this because nicky put his old leathers in the washing machine they were a little big for him but fit alot better now and look ok, might try this with my old leathers.

blade , how much did perry want to do it as he said he would find out the best and cheapest way for you,

Let’s hope you havent rotted your stitching on your leathers by washing em… cos if you ever hit the deck they will fall apart and you won’t have much skin left:w00t:

Apparently £400 odd is the price?..i just didnt know how if that was right price…oh Andy? is Sneaky your mate that came with us to walton, or have a made a mistake in thinking it was Sneaky i was talking to about where he took his bike, ie perrys to get his bike done…hmmm got a “sneaky” feeling, ive got wrong guy here…:w00t:

yep you sure have got it wrong, dont think i know sneaky even thou we ride the same roads on a sunday.

Was not I said the crow!

I thought about that beforehand, I doubt washing them would rot the stitching? I could check with Mick (MW Leathers) what they’re stitched with. He did tell me about 300yrs ago.

When the armour and lining goes back in, rest assured I’ll be looking for signs tho!

Why would washing them rot the stitching - should I be worried about how often my leathers have got wet in the rain, or would it be the detergent? :ermm:

As it happens I’m going to MW tomorrow to get a zip repaired, all in the line of duty of course ,and I shall ask the man himself what he thinks

I had a set years ago that had been through the wash once or twice:Whistling: And after several future washes were i’d dried them in me mums airing cuboard then i come off me bike and the stitching just disintergrated!:pinch: so i am always worried about washing them in a machine then baking them dry…can’t be good for the stitches surely:unsure:

Thinking about it, the stress of being shoved in a machine and agitated would stress the threads as the leather moves around and then dries, possibly tighter in places. That would pull on the thread or put it under tension at least. So the thread would be weaker in case of an accident and could possibly break so the leathers would come apart. And drying in an airing cupboard rather than hanging up to dry slowly could possibly also stress the threads more as the leather would pull on the thread as it dried quickly.

If your leathers get wet in a storm and then hung up to dry slowly away from direct heat, you won’t be pulling and yanking at the thread while it’s wet so would be putting it under less strain.

Well that’s what I reckon, anyhow.

I did email him. He said “interesting!”

The issue could be what you washed them in. Plus drying them in the airing cupboard would be a real no-no?

What make were they? And how old? These could factor heavily too?

I was there today and he mentioned you had emailed him.Firstly no problem with the stitching as its nylon coated and pretty damn tough. He was a bit dubious about washing machines because of the amount of water absorbed. As long as leathers are allowed to dry naturally they should be fine, little squirt of fabreze or similar to freshen up,or as we get from him removable washable linings, and ours do get very smelly, sitting on hot beemers in the West End.Nice !!!

Thanks Broady.

Mike did tell me about Fabreeze yrs ago. I have tried it, does get rid of the smell for a bit. My leathers are prolly 12-13yrs old!!! The leather shrunk too.

The other problem with Fabreeze is that it breaks your stair banister spindles! I had given my leathers a good going over inside (Fabreeze) and out (Mikes conditioner). Where I’d been standing on the dirty cloths I’d been dropping on my bedroom floor. The phone rang. I ran down the stairs to get the phone not realising that my shoes now had a liberal coating of the foamy oil conditioner that Mike sells and the Fabreeze. My feet slipped, I tried to stop myself falling down the stairs, but I had limited success. I had my right leg over the top of the banister, my left leg smashed through 2 of the spindles and I darn-near broke my left thumb as I slid down my stairs on my a$$!

I know that I can tell you good folk all about this without fear of getting the p!ss ripped outa me…I can right?

Sounds like good old slapstick comedy, you should be on the stage:D

Yeah, yeah…the-the-next-one-outa-town!
