BULL RUN 2011! London to Pamplona

A few years back i went with a backpackers to Pamplona to do the Bull Run and had an awesome time. The main problem was that i didnt have a bike and theres some lovely roads in the Navarra area of Spain.

So getting to the point im wondering who would be up for going this year? Heres some info on the festival http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Fermín and some pics http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=san+fermin&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1024&bih=587

The opening day is the 6th July where they have a food fight in the town square and then walk the streets where the run takes place and then party all night until the first day of the run where they walk straight to the start line. Sleeping all day and partying all night happens for the duration of the festival.

I was planning on being there for the opening day and the first run and then going to Barcelona to meet some friends who are bikers also and spending some time riding with them. I might head back to the festival for the last day run but its not essential.

I know a great campsite where i stayed before. Its by a river and about 30 mins from town surrounded by lovely roads. http://www.campingelmolino.com/index.php/en

Anyone interested i can give you more info.

Like the sound of this, I’ve seen it a couple of times and always wanted to give it a crack.

The roads around there are also amazing for biking.

been meaning to do this for a vdw years now,but everytime i ask my friends i get the same answers, iev got no money, moan moan, the mrs wont let me moan moan, got kids moan moan, ah not my thing mate moan moan, or any excuse moan moan. so i would leap at this chance. If you poke the bulls with stick do u think there run faster? U can count me in for sure

A firm “maybe” from me

Hey,

Myself and cat will be there for this and we are riding the bike down and its one of our first stops on the way to Australia, so its a firm yes for us!!

PM me what date you plan to leave.

J

When you’re in BCN, look me up!

Yes, lovely roads round here

NICE ONE FELLAS (and ladies) Its good to see some interest.

Ok firstly im a member of this travel networking site www.couchsurfing.org and have been for about 4 years. I cant say a bad thing about it and everywhere i travel i meet some great people and also have them come and visit me. Theres a bikers group on there where im trying to find people on the way or in Spain to show us some of the local roads etc. They could offer a place to stay and be a ride guide.
I know someone in Pamplona who can put me and 1 other up but i would prefer to stay with the group at a campsite and she could be our city guide.
What i could also mention is that if anyone else here becomes a CS member then i could vouch for you and give you a good reference so there is a possibility of you couchsurfing at sometime on that trip or any other time you are on the road and prefer local hospitality to a cheap B&B. My friendly host in Amsterdam 2 weeks ago lives smack bang in the centre of the Red Light district.

Secondly seeing as the festival starts on Weds 6th July i figured we would need 2 days leisurely ride there which means leaving on Monday 4th but why waste a weekend waiting for Monday so i figured to leave on Sat 2nd July. We would then have plenty of time to cruise around the Alps on the way.

I’ve done it twice and the elmolino camp site is by far the best. the travel group that organises it is First Festival Travel in Acton Town. great bunch and the camp site has 1500 Aussie, kiwi, safa and uk folk there. The locals are cleared out. big pools, late bar, late dj’s AWESOME. oh and a bus ride into town FREE so u can drink

gotta find those pics…

that’s cause you’re nuts, not just you everyone thinking of doing this. honey you can go on a track day - i’ll join you, you can do jumping of a cliff with a rope - i’ll just watch you do it, but somehow i will be very concerned when you go up against a bull, that animal is unpredictable if you dont get painfully nailed, then you might get people stamping all over you and shoving you. urgh, definitely not my idea of fun

Jaime i worked with that backpacker company when i went for the trip. The organizers are very nice people but after seeing the behavior of all of those drunken tourists i was almost ashamed to be associated with them.
The good thing about it was the amount of said drunken female tourists falling over with their legs in the air.

i mean i’m not too worried for my life, but when it comes to death and dying i’d rather die quickly and in ecstasy of pleasure

You dont happen to be a smoker, do you Anna?

 that’s why I’ve done it twice :D:D:D

I love the drunkenness. but not in the town centre. the camp site is fine. Oh and the girls were just airing their bits

the “van tour” guys are ferral though:crying::sick:

it’s a big ride there. 900miles one way!!! that’s if you take a direct route but miss Paris:w00t:

900miles isnt much difference than Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane and i’ve done those overnight.

On the one side, I feel sorry for that poor katana, 900 miles overnight! dear me!

On the other side, bikes just gotta be ridden!

Anyway, almost definite on this once its all set in stone…

HAHAHA I did that trip on my '85 750 gixxer.

A definite interested from me!

Definite interest from me too.
I did this trip down in 2009 and had a great time.
May split and head into the twisty Pyranees after Pamplona, also, have to hit the beach in San Sebastian.

Have you thought about getting a lazy ferry back from Spain to Portsmouth?
Cheaper if there are more of you to a cabin.

I have a mate that would also be keen.

what sort of pace are you looking to be setting?
I only ask, as I have a supermoto, so not too great for motorway cruising, not for that distance anyway. Looking to make a change before then, so may be ok.
