Certainly a lot easier than an indicator with an offset pin
I believe that is to prevent incorrect bulb fitment
21W (type 382) clear indicator bulbs with a straight pin arrangement for indicators with an amber lens cover
21W (type 581) amber indicator bulbs with an off set pin arrangement for indicators with a clear lens cover
Indeed but try finding one after 1800 in town
Back in the day when I passed my driving tests, motorcycle and car, we had to demonstrate hand signals, never used them since but I can now see where they might be useful
