BREAST CANCER WEEKEND - JOINING INSTRUCTIONS FOR BIKE CREW

Firstly I’m sorry if people have felt a little left out about this event. I know there has been a lot of ‘Chinese Whispers’ about what we are doing despite my best efforts to stop it I know it has been continuing. I know some of the packs haven’t been received by many - this is not out fault as we were never co ordinating this.

Just bear in mind we have promised to support this worthy cause as individuals - so any non attendence for reasons along the lines of ‘I wasn’t kept informed so therefore I’m pulling out’ Well lets just say I have no respect for people like that…

Anyway onto to good things:

-This is what what you can expect and what will happen over the 2 days. If you have heard anythig else then I’m sorry you have been misinformed - this is what you need to take on board.

Saturday 16th Spetember.
05:00 hrs Meet at Greenwich Park - Blackheath Gate assembly near the bandstand:

Here you will:
-Register
-Get your tent allocation and decide your tent buddy
-Drop off your luggage (see suggested kit list below)
-Receive your badge (to enable you to use the food and drink stations)
-Watch a safety video
-Eat Breakfast
-Find out who is in your mini team
-Find out what crossing points you have been assigned for the day
-See off the walkers

From here on in your day will be moving from crossing point to crossing point. Once you are there you will be static for a reasonable preiod of time. Your main job will be:
-Assist walkers to cross the road safely to minimise risk to them and delay for road users.
-We are unable to stop the traffic. So for a crossing controlled by signals we allow people to cross in line with the lights. For crossings where there are no lights e.g Zebra or normal stretch of road if there is a gap in the traffic then let them cross. This will be explained in detail on Saturday morning.
We are also there to motivate the walkers too - this is very important so lots of chat and banter to keep them going.
There will be periods set aside for lunch and breaks - all this will be taken care of. We will work out times for breaks and your badge will allow you free access to the feeding points etc.

When you move to another point you will ride there - bikes can get to places faster. We are not walking with the walkers - we are not walking the route and we are not riding ‘shotgun’ for the walkers either - just helping them Cross the road or keep them on the pavements - we are keeping them safe at places that have been identified as a potential risk.

At the end of the day we will all meet up again in Finsbury Park - it’s the end of the route on the first day. This is the location for the camp.

Here you will pick up your luggage and set your tent up (the tents might have been put up for us - I’m not sure 100%). This is where we will spend the night.
The camp will provide:
Tent
Hot food
Wash basins
Showers
Hot Water
Entertainment (until 9:30pm)
A secure environment
Bike parking behind the perimeter of the park gates. It’s outside the camp but covered by security (this is what I’ve been told)

That’s about it for Saturday. Once in camp we are free to mingle and do whatever we wish. However bear in mind there is another early start Sunday

Sunday 17th September
05:00 start (maybe later you will know the night before)
Route assigments
Breakfast
Off we go…

Same format as Saturday, however route takes us back to Greenwich.

Again leave your luggage and the tent - it’s taken down for us…

We will get to Greenwich Park and assemble for the closing ceremony. The walkers all cross the line together. there are speeches and prizes and general thanks we are all wonderfull. This can be quite emotional so be warned to have tissues with you…after this you’ll pick up your luggage and then it’s home!

Thanks for coming along. Thanks for supporting BCW. The team at BCW are amazed at the commitment people are showing for this. So lets all be there as we promised and enjoy the weekend.

Okay. If there’s any problem with this - anything please PM me or Barro. As I said if you thought we were meeting else where this is what you should accept as gospel - again PM if you’re not sure.

Kit list.

This is based on what was in the pack with some additions…
ROUTE PACKS
Sleeping bag
Kip mat
Wash Kit
Towel

TORCH
Waterproofs
Clothes to wear in camp
Trainers
Bike kit
Motorcycle
Water bottle (to use on the road)
A luggage label - TO ID your kit

That’s about it. You can bring whatever else you like but it’s only 1 night. Don’t bring your own tent. They like to have a pic showing an image of lots of Pick tents - your own one will look out of place…

So - please don’t reply to this thread. Any problems let me know via PM…

BUT PLEASE ALL TURN UP!!!
