brands indy 29th march

planning to be there with a mate or two, anyone else? First trackday of the year!

I will be poping along some time in the afternoon just to have a nose:)

cool, it’ll be good to see you again

Is that Monday? MSV? I might well be there on the 'berg - first ever ride; assuming I’ll be able to kickstart the thing.

yep that’s right, just hoping the weather will be good - not gonna book, to save me losing my money.

Fair enough. Looks like the weather will be mixed - a little light rain through the day. Bit damp in the PM.

Taking wets.

damn, that was fun!

copied from me blog:

After a busy weekend running all over town to pick up bikes and bits, the 'berg was brought home in time for it’s first track outing, at least the first with me.

The day started with a damp, drying track, which stayed mostly dry until after lunch, when we had a properly wet session followed by two damp sessions. Being just a few days before the Brands BSB weekend, the racers were out in force - 600’s, DesmoDue guys and a three bike 250 team. The intermediate group was pretty full, novices and fast had fewer riders. I have to thank one of the guys in the garage next to ours - he has a 'berg and started the bike for me on all but one of the sessions - I kicked it into life once and will be practicing every day until I can do it every time. Sean from Ducati Race Support was there with another of his customers - Chris, who has a stunning yellow 998s, kitted out with Frankie Chili logos.

Wow, what a blast. Getting the 'berg was completely the right decision. The bike is light and flickable and even though the bike was on wets all day and I was riding it smoothly because of the low traction conditions, it was awesome. It has a high compression engine and that fires the bike forward out of the corners. A couple of times, exiting Druids I had to hold back because the bike leapt up to the rider in front. Handling was excellent - it is very easy to turn in and the grip - on worn wets in the dry, or in the pouring rain - is fantastic. Trailing the brakes into the slower bends kept the front planted even at reasonable lean. It was competitive with the 250 racers - had a fantastic tussle with two from the same team riding together and the rearmost rider was very assertive, blocking me several times coming out of Graham Hill and into Clearways. Eventually got right up to the wheel at Paddock, followed him through Druids and was all over him at Graham Hill to get an early drive out onto the straight. Hard on the gas, the bars were kicking and bucking, throttle against the stop and through the gears up to Eventually took them both on the back straight. Didn’t see them again that session.

The bike ran faultlessly, apart from the gear lever (I fitted) coming off on the first of the sighting laps - went for a gear and there was nothing there. The marshalls saw it come off and delivered it back to the pits in the circuit M3  One session, I had given the bike a dash of fuel and went straight out. After a few laps, it started coughing and I lost all power yards after the pits. It ran ok, so I took it easy down the pit lane, hugged the wall and put my hand out to let the guys know I had a problem and continued around the circuit. It finally died at Druids, so I got off the track on the inside of the bend and parked the bike against the armco on the grass. The marshalls took the bike back to the pits. We found that the dash of fuel hadn’t been enough for the session - a few drops of fuel could be seen through the semi-translucent tank. Funny!

Later in the day, a guy on a Triumph 600 Daytona, who was sharing the garage with us provided good value on track, coming past a couple of times along the straight, but losing position at Druids or Clearways. On one occasion he got past on the start/finish line, blocked me into Paddock, then got stuck behind three or four bikes going into Druids. He later told me that he was just thinking ‘damn, he’s going to go pa…’ and I did under braking! Awesome.

Sean wasn’t too impressed when I pitched up with the bike in the morning, but gradually during the course of the day, he was appreciating the little 'berg more. Me, I was grinning like an idiot through the whole day.

For a first time out on the bike, I had a blast. Clearly not doing the bike justice, but I loved every minute.

Thanks for reading! Enjoy.

I thought this was a Blade post when I saw all that writing.

Very nice
