Brands GP Track report

Well i did my first track day and i stayed sticky side down!! yay

What a great day, i wasnt realy nervous going into this first track day just excited.

As soon as i got there people were chating to me and making me feel right at home, every one was spot on, help and advice was aways at hand from other riders, there friends and family and from Focused events.

I met up with baloo from LB (nice chap) and we had our briefing.
the guy mark who was in charge was very clear and enthuseastic.

he said enjoy the day and try to keep it cool, as the sun is out its hot people get carryed away, so just be chilled…

Fat lot of good that did, first guy bins it on the sighting lap (fast group)

After that someone binned it in every single session of the day, EVERY ONE.

By lunch time mark was FUMING and told every one off, that didnt stop the rot it was crash central…

That was a shame coz it cut down everyones track time but i guess such are trackdays.

After my first few sessions i was getting in to a nice flow and the gixer was amazing it didnt lose its composure no matter how hard i tryed to unsettle it.

And my lack of skill was all taken in its stride.

I did find i was getting held up alot in the novice group but with 50 or so bikes on the track thats bound to happen.

The GP circiut is truly phenomenal… every section is challenging and very rewarding when you get it right.

I think id find it hard to do the indie now hehe as some of the best bits of track are out the back for me.

Sweeping round surtees hard on the gas up the hill flat out under the bridge, down pilgrims drop and round hawthorns, hawthorns is mental, once you have been round it a few times you realize you can take it at twice the speed you think you can, awesome.

Stirlings is another great turn with a nice helpfull camber by the end of the day i was going threw there about 80 mph.

And paddock hill… what can i say that bend is a beast like some insane rollercoaster ride, every time a got to the bottom i was pinned to the bike with g force.

That bend is also ace for getting past people, great felling as you pass 4 or 5 bikes on the brakes into paddock, the bend is very scary and as you flying down the straight you know its coming you just cant see it…just about everyone was braking half way down the pit straight.

All in all a day ill never forget…

absoultly frigin fantastic!!

oww p.s thanks again to Mr B who was there giving top tips and support your a gent!!

nice report, I love the GP circuit… glad you stayed right way up …

…and surely there couldn’t have been that many crashes at an FE trackday, “the safest trackday organisers in the UK” according to them … ha ha ha … lets hope Hottrax and No Limits survive, thats all I can sy …

Nice one Adam! You lucky sod with the weather, stunning eh! Glad you had a great time and kept it sticky side down. Looking forward to Silverstone, eh? Nice pictures as well… Brands GP is one of my alltime favourite circuits, it’s just a shame it’s so expensive.

yeah… in all fairness to them, they cant control peoples right hand.

And Mark from FE did spend 40 mins or so telling people to take it easy as since the good weather started they been mopping up 3 times as many bikes.

He did the same after lunch to, hes was well pissed off LOL…

at the restart He said anyone bining it would not be re-stickered and anyone pullling stupid close passes would be booted off.

And err there was some crazy riding going on…

Adam, thats because they sell days a tenner cheaper than anyone else, excercise zero group control and are the “pile it high, sell it cheap” end of the trackday market …

I would add to Adam’s report. Apart from the fact that he is a great guy, he could easily moved up a group, despite this being his first day. Big cudos for that.

Re the pile em high suggestion, I do approx 20 track days a year (for the last two years anyway) and have never seen this happen before. Neither had anyone else I spoke to. No-one was seriously hurt, but some basis schoolboy errors were made. Some of the offs were in bizarre (sp?) places. I have absolutely no idea why, other than perhaps peoples’ frustration at having sessions interrupted due to crashes.

I still trust FE and will continue to use them, it was not the numbers of riders that caused the problem (there was plenty of space in all groups, once you overtook or were overtaken, in my case, by the fast boys).

Also thanks to B, it was great to meet someone will real enthusiasm and a willingness to share his experience and thoughts to help others.

hum yeah your right, they need to tighten up on the control…

Well done on getting your first trackday safely under your belt Adam. You definitely looked like you were having fun and getting the most out of it as well as getting quicker. I guess youll be back for more soon. I only came down to collect my bike from Race-Lab (suspension guys) but ended up staying the day to help out as well as sitting in the sun. Cant wait to try out the new k-tech fork internals.
Ive never seen Mark that angry and did not think anyone would dare to fall off after the second briefing of the day but a few more did. Im sure they hid from Mark afterwards.
Nice to meet you baloo, we`ll have a few laps out there next time.

Glad you enjoyed it and didn’t end up a casualty. Sounds and looks like you got it licked in some style!

Top Banana!

Nice to hear you both had a great time. I have only done the GP once and loved it. Racing it in September, looking forward to it already.

As for the crashes, they are just so so so frustrating. It ruins your day really, you just get into a rhythm and the dreaded red flag comes out, this causes you to lose track time, you sit around getting frustrated and hot and then lo and behold, another one goes on a mission and crashes.
