Ok i have fitted a GSXR SRAD front end to my SV. 4pot Tokico, disks are EBC prolite & EBC HH pads, braded up to a 5/8 stock SV MC. The braking is just stupidly hard and sharp. Like it only has a On & Off and very little in between and the lever is on 6 Max setting. Any ideas on what i can do, or replacement MC that will give me a more progressive brake delivery.
Having good brakes on a bike is always a good thing but is hard to comment on your set up accurately online. What i would say though is that if your front suspension is soft as a lot of road bikes are (little compression damping and preload) then the abruptness of the braking is exaggerated.
Re:brake lever: from what i understand, the adjustment on your brake lever is for tailoring the fit to the riders hand span and not strenght of braking.
As B says above. We can’t really comment until we have tried it out. It may be that the new set up is a little to severe for an SV. Personally I prefer a brake that sounds like yours, but, its not so super suitable for round town use where you might want to do some light braking just to scrub off a little speed, it all depends how you ride really.
What are the SV calipers?
Stock SV calipers are 2pot dual disk calipers.
But my bike has SRAD front end so its 4pot Tokico.
I need to get the front wheel bearings sorted as they seem to be stuffed and are affecting the handling when braking.
Fit the correct master cylinder and it should work. If you turn the master cylinder upside down and have a look it should have a number cast in the bottom, I think it’s 5/8 for the tokico twin 4 pots but could be wrong.
As the pistons are a lot larger in the SV calipers it may be the MC shifts to much fluid for the twin 4 pots which have considerably smaller piston. Or your’re just not used to decent brakes.
Very possable, the SV MC is 5/8 which is same as the SRAD anyway. Its possable that with my combination at the front it makes for a good braking setup. Im getting used to it slowly.
