I had a new set of tyres fitted on Thursday last week and since yesterday I’ve noticed a rubbing/squeeking noise coming from the rear wheel. After closer inspection it appears that the brake pads are permanently touching the disc.
Should I take it back to the people that fitted the wheel? Bearing in mind that they are the last people to touch the rear brake caliper.
Sounds as though the brake caliper needs a very good clean out, and, possible replacement of piston seals. After a very good clean up, especially the pistons, try pushing the pistons back in the caliper, they should move fairly free without too much effort, if not, its new seals.
Had the calipers off, cleaned etc etc…all put back together, still making the noise.
Had a look around the back wheel and I noticed some ‘shiney’ rubbing marks on the tyre. It now transpires that my original diagnosis was wrong and it’s actually the rear hugger rubbing the wheel thats making this noise.
Its possible that the new tyre thats been fitted has a different profile than what you had on there before. Or if the new tyre is made by a different manufacturer, the profile may be a slightly different shape, causing the rubbing.
If that is the case, only option is to change the tyre or remove the hugger until your next tyre replacement.
