I am doing some thing I do not normally do … I am going to remove the points system from my classic and fit an electronic system . Its running nice now on the points but the old system is very hard on the charging components and I think for longevity I need to go electronic . Now it seems I have a choice … Pamco Petes or Boyer Brandson are the 2 makes Pamco being the cheaper and seemingly simpler system . Does anyone have any experience with the Pamco system ? Reliable ,ease of fitting etc ?
fitted 1 yrs ago to a Xs650 lump, remember it was easy enough at the time, lol.
if you have any probs i know a bloke in sth croydon that does all this lark.
Its an XS650 I will be fitting it to . . It looks simple enough from what I can see on the website …but as you know what looks simple often comes with a snag somewhere .An old part that needs replaced so the new will fit, previous owners bodges , fought my way through a couple of them today doing the clutch . Good to have it confirmed that it should be straightforward . Do you remember any base timing settings or anything that might be useful to me ? Or was it a case of fit it correctly and it just works?? … ooo thats optomistic haha
i can remember feck all m8, sorry was over 10 yrs ago, lol.
1 thing i do remember to do the timing on it the plastic plate had to be cut so you could turn it a little more because i think the 1s for the xs650 are originally for triumph been a twin etc.
i think you got to get some threaded bar too to bolt it on which goes through to the other side of engine, i think, lol.
Thanks for the help anyways … Possibly it has changed a little in 10 years perhaps it is more dedicated now . Had a look at an XS forum and it seems like its the one to have so I have ordered one .
