I was once in a building a similar distance from cylinders that exploded in a fire just off The Strand. We knew from the smoke in the sky that a nearby building was on fire, but had been told to stay inside. When the cylinders went off, about 100 metres away, you could see the windows bend with the blast wave, but fortunately nothing gave way. I remember terminating a phone call with the words, delivered in a very calm British sort of way, “Sorry, I must go, there has been an explosion”.
