BMW R 1250 GS Home Wheel Change

The GS needs a new rear Michelin Road 6 tyre as it’s squared off now after much adventuring around Europe, and we’re off to Slovenia soon as well. Struggling for time to take a bike to a shop for a tyre change, and the fact I like to do what I can myself, I’ve rigged up a bike support in the garage loft to hold the rear of the bike up, put the GS on the center stand and taken the rear wheel off.

I have to say, it has the be the simplest wheel removal process ever on a bike. Just a few torx bolts to crack, then spun off with the driver and it just slides off. Super easy. Will take it to a local guy who replaces tyres on loose wheels.

Strapped up to the ceiling. The strap is just to stop the bike pivoting on the center stand, it’s not to take the whole bike weight.

Will get in there and give it a good clean as well now I have better access.

Old, and new. Mail-ordered the new one.
