With all the lay-offs and everything people are writing about I thought it’d be worth a mention that Bloomberg has said it’s taking on new staff. Don’t know if it’s in sales, news, IT, teaboys (or catering interface professionals or whatever they’re calling them). Don’t know numbers, doubt it will be great. Anyway, if that can help someone, figured it’s worth posting.

Best thing to do would be go on bloomberg.com and look into the careers/jobs section. My experience was quite good with that. I was working with Reuters in Helsinki and applied for a sports desk job with Bloomberg in London because I wanted to come home. Never got that but Bloomberg called me up with another opening they thought might suit me and I went through the hiring proces. Admittedly it took 14 months or so to get the job because there were tests and a gazillion interviews, but that was the exception. Talks from bosses here to staff suggest we’re ready to use the crappy current economic circumstances as a chance to pick up some talent so we’re better positioned when things pick up. Also we’re not a public company so there’s no shareholder pressure to slash staff numbers. Hope that helps.
