For what it’s worth: in Norway I had some Lithuanian neighbors for a while. They were in the country to work hard (12 hours a day, 6 days a week, I have big respect for them) and party hard as well.
They used to get away with going to some local nightclub on weekends, getting pissed, getting in fights and usually getting chucked out. Then they’d drive home in their Lithuanian-reg car, with summer tires and no spikes, on snow and solid ice, totally pissed, and giggle about it when they got home. How the heck they never slid off the road I still don’t know. If the Norwegian po-po would have caught them doing it, they would have fried their asses on the end of a big stick.
Now, it’s bad to generalize, but I can totally see how that’d happen, if the people they are talking about are anything like my old neighbors.
Mind you, they were cool fellows, we used to hang and lend each other coffee/fags/money through hard times, but they weren’t the most responsible people you have ever met when it came to matters of road safety 
Highway code is the same for everybody. Doesn’t matter from where they come from. If they caused an offense, they should pay for it. In my opinion people who drink and drive should be banned from driving.

@Pavel: Of course, I agree! The rules are the same for everyone and they are in place for a good reason. But I’m not the sort of Gestapo dude to pick up the phone and snitch on my neighbors… I just make sure I’m not on the road the same time they are :hehe:
But here’s the ethical dilemma: If I don’t tell anyone, they cause an accident and someone gets hurt, how will I feel about it then? Not good I suppose.
I say that those who don’t take the keys off their mates when they know they have been drinking … are not real friends. The barmaid at the wilbury had to have a few days off from shock when the punter she had been serving all night crashed on the way home and died. 3 kids under 10… nice bloke but a serious prat for drink driving - cost him his life :crying:
If you are a real friend, you’d stop them or shop them. If you aren’t on the road when these DUI arseholes are, then one of your friends/family could be. That’s alot of ‘I wish I had done something’ to have.
My fella was so drunk he looked sober but was adament he was driving. I wouldn’t let him drive. He has no memory of that night but still thought he was ok to drive. I would have called the police on him. I have told him I’d shop him to his boss to as it’s a company car. He knows I’d do it to. Lost a few people to car accidents.

An issue is identified, but because it involves people who are not white, middle class and English, the Daily Mail guilt kicks in that says, “Ooh I can’t say anything about this issue because it involves ethnicity or a non-Anglo Saxon origin and people might think I’m being racist!”

It would be racist if you said the ruddy Immigrants are too stupid to know better. But what the article is saying is that the attitudes that are prevalent in those countries are different to ours. That’s not racist, its an observation.
Some people may read into that article that the “ruddy immigrants are too stupid to know better”, but the kind of people who have that response AREN’T the editors or reporters who wrote they article, and more importantly they’re probably ignorant and their opinions aren’t really worth listening to.
If a culture is different and you discuss that difference, you AREN’T being racist, you are actually quite civilised.
I’m actually disgusted that people can drive in this country just because they’ve learnt to drive in another country. Personally I think every single human being that hasn’t taken a British driving test should be forced to take one the second they come into this country if they want to drive a vehicle.
That is the ONLY way we can be sure that they drive to a good enough stsandard to drive on our roads. And that would certainly include, Americans, Germans, French, Nigerians, the Polish, Hungarians, Greeks, Italians and anyone over the age of 55, with a special addition of a refresher test every 5 years after 55, and every two years after 70.
Now fair enough that would be a tourist problem for renting a car, but if you don’t have a GB licence you shoudl then be forced to take out mega-death fully comp insurance that would be returned to you (cash-wise) if you didn’t claim. That way, everyone who came here would be VERY careful about their driving.
The roads are THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE in the whole of Britain. Why is everyone worried about keeping the safety standards high…?

I’m a British Driving License holder if you wanted to know, so I’m free to drive or am I not? 
The guy who did that worked at RAF Henlow, his wife was having an affair and he decided to end it all. Unfortunately for that poor woman he hit, his car took off on that rise just before the bridge and he ended up hitting her head on, rather than hitting the bridge. Made me cry, poor kids 
Chris died just opposite the Letchworth sign by Wyevale last month. He was absolutely gunning it up the road and suddenly came upon a cyclist… he swerved, hit the tree on the other side of the road by the golf course and died instantly. Chris was a really good bloke, damned shame he will be remembered for dying like a twat.Far too many accidents in Letchworth. Do you remember the one where that teenager wanted to kill himself and drove the wrong way up the A1M? He drove towards the car even though they tried to swerve. The wife died, Dave ended up in hospital and I think their daughter was in the car… absolutely gutting thing to happen.

I do remember something about a suicide on the A1. Didn’t it happen about 4 or 5 years ago? I thought someone was “walking the wrong way” or had “thrown themself in front of a car”. The stories are a bit blurred in my memory now.
It was like our very own instance of a “shooting” last month. I guess we’re trying to be more like London 
The A1 suicide was a couple of years ago i think. The lad was about 18-19 and drove up the wrong side of the motorway. When they tried to swere to avoid him, he aimed at them. I’m fairly sure the little girl was hurt, she was about 2 or 3. The wife/mum died and Dave has been fighting this in court. It was in the Comet reacently. There was a guy 5 years ago who was hit by a car walking up the motorway, the dad is claiming foul play and blamed the police for x, y and z.The shooting… 3 london boys and a girl from Hitchin. It was an arguement about not paying for drugs and the girls hubby went to his car to get tooled up. machettes, gas gun and baseball bats apparently… it all got messy. It was a very low calibre gun, hense why the two guys didn’t die. She was in court the other week and stormed in and gave the judge loads of grief. She always was a facstiy bitch. She was in my sisters year at school… what’s bad is that I warned her off my sister a couple of years ago, told her I’d sort her out… and now look at her! running amok with wannabe gangstas and pop guns… just goes to show, you never know who you are fronting a?
