Since moving up to a Blackbird, it’s a whole new tyre world to get my head around… a scary new world where mileages are lower and the prices are higher… :S
At the moment, I run Michelin Pilot Roads and so far I’m happy with those, but I’m wondering what the range is… I’m not interested in the super sticky trackday rubber, rather something that will last me at least 7-8000 km between changes.
What are you guys running, and what are you getting out of a set mileage wise?
You want steveCBR11XX!! Only other person I can think of with that kind of bike is Grimbusa - obviously the Suzuki version and not the Honda version, but he might be worth a PM.
Hi just replaced my tyres on me XX, kept with Bridgestones 020 paid £189 fitted. Bridgestones are replacing the 020 with 021 duel compound so 020 are at a good price at the moment so look around;) I got 14000 miles out of the front and 8000 from the back on a set of 020, if you do alot of pillioning expect 4 to 4500 mile from the rear. I would recommend them;)
well Im on 10k from the maxxiss front, and got over 7k out of the BT021 rear and that was lots of 2 up riding, but my pillion not a bloater like pauls thats why he expect less miles :D:P:P:Ptime to leave the building
the main reason for that particular low mileage was due to giving steve a lift home from the downs (about 4 miles) and had nothing to do with Fi. Steve - diet mate! your expensive!
I look forward to being able to answer questions like this once I’ve got some proper 'bird mileage under my belt. For now, I don’t even know which rubber mine’s got fitted!
GOT MICHELIN PILOT ROAD 2’S ON MINE AND THEY HANDLED A TRACK DAY AT BRANDS IN THE WET LAST MONTH VERY WELL INDEED…( i.e. i didn’t fall off , even in the gravel)…
Got to agree with Mo, BT 021 are really good. 4000 miles, and not even half the tyre worn, only managed 3500 miles on the previous standard tyres,… then i sold the bike
I hant got a Black bird but people i know who have recomended that i used Avon Storms on my ZRX 1200 and they were spot on as they last and handle well.
I have Avon Storm ST’s fitted on my TL, they handle well and I get reasonable mileage considering how I ride.
The difference between the 020 and 021’s is tread pattern, they are much improved from the 020 however my strongest recomendation for a great all rounder is the DUNLOP ROADSMART, and yes they do deserve capitals.
I have them on my work bike and found they offer fabulous handling especially in the wet and awsome ware rate. They are a tri-compound tyre and even when cranked over and abused hold well with predictable feedback.
Go for a nice set of Dunlop Roadsmarts, you will be back on here singing their praises.
