Biking is a small world!

Ok so I’m buying an SV650 for on track, I’m not bothered about most road crash damage, just looking for something cheap to get the other half into racing again. I speak to a mate that works for Southern Cross (Matt from this site) and he tells me about a bike that is going. One of his customers/friends is selling one. He hasn’t seen it but he reckons it might suit.

So there follows a few weeks of texts and emails and the like, trying to get photos of the bike etc. Eventually, we get hold of his customer/mate who sends the pics. There is only really some front end damage which doesnt look major (the road fairing is useless to me anyway). I’m interested and we chat and agree on price.

Turns out that he is storing it at a shop and is having difficulties with getting it to me. I ask which shop. He tells me Metropolis Vauxhall, so I ring up The Artist (from this site) and ask if he can help. He goes all out for us, gets the bike chained up outside so that we can pick it up. We rock up Sunday and check it out. It’s fine and will be a good basis for a racebike. We load up, we pay.

So Mr Customer/friend (“Steve”) says he would like us to keep in touch over the bike. He wants to see how it progresses. I invite him to come along to a meet at some point. He agrees. We go home and add each other to Facebook.

Mark and I start to strip the bike, have a giggle at the bits missing (an HT lead/connector??? “oh I wonder why it wouldn’t start…”) and I take pics. I post the pics on Facebook. Steve comments on the photos. All is well.

I get a message on Facebook… and I quote:

"Hiya

I dont know if you remember me but I was at Westminster with you and played hockey in 99/00 and 00/01 - Does a tour to Holland that involved braining a really annoying bloke with a beer jug sound familiar??

Random as it is, the guy you bought the bashed up Suzuki from is actually my little brother! I’ve also known Matt for about 12 years as we were in the cadets together.

Small world! I also think I may have bumped ito you in a petrol station in Old Street just before Christmas - I remember seeing someone but they were all dressed up in leathers so wasnt sure and wasnt sure if it was you, whether you’d recognise me!

Anyway I hope you’re well, I see you’re really into your bikes! I have a 750 Shadow which I use for touring and commuting but havent been on it for ages cos I broke my leg quite badly last year (hockey injury rather than bike one!)

Would be really nice to hear from you

Mandy x"

It’s one SMALL world!!! I’m so glad she got in touch

I love random things like that. I have discovered so many random connections amongst my friends via Facebook etc - the world really is a very small place

One of the guys on here played in my best mates band - had seen him play with them a few times

Also, saw 7wheel out and about before I knew he was a member here - posted about his trike and somebody said it was probably him - turned out it was

I used to know Ratty’s mum and her mates when we were biking yoof back in the day when it was lame to have a fairing:D

yeah found that one of my neighbours used to play in a band with someone I used to work with. And that he had also been to a few parties with my little brother. Got to love the small little coincidences that life throws up
