Just to add a few comments to the mix. It’s a shame we didn’t win but I also doubt the fee would have stayed at £1 if we hadn’t been fighting it.
I expect the charge will level out at £5 per day within the next few years nand be £10 within 10 years.
We have tried hitting them on every possible bleamish on their plans, the actual reduction of bays, the lack of security etc, but I’m not sure taking these points to court would have helped due to the fact that they could probably show evidence that bikers often don’t even use the security features when there are any. The won due to the “it’s only a pound” argument.
As mentioned above a WCC councillor has threatened a few times to sue but seems to bottle it before he commits resources to it.
One thing we have achieved is the unearthing of so much crap on behalf of Westminster and the illregularities relating to their Partnership in Parking scheme which seems to be loosing signaturies pretty regulary.
I merely point to the new £9,000 School Fees. The Government announced them and said…They will be the exception not the norm.
My University is ranked 117th out of 118 Universities on the Guardian Rankings.
It is now going to charge £9,000.
How is that University “exceptional” ? It is not and this is only the first year. I think I read on the BBC that 47% of Universities are planning to charge £9,000 for at least some of their courses.
You give a council or apparently an education facility an opportunity to fleece people and they will.
The Congestion Charge I think is different because of the unique make-up of central London. Low density population, high density business.
