Sounds like a great idea. For all its troubles that part of the world looks like a fantastic place to ride to and around(barring the inevitable Israeli restrictions) and well worth a visit, i’ve a couple of spare undamaged lids.
I’ve got a couple of old lids - in a way i’d be embaressed to donate them - as being a stingy bastard they were both worn long after their sell by date and one of them has a dirty great scratch down the chin bar when I went on an involuntary luge down the road after coming off my bike. But on the other hand they have got to be better than nothing?
Sounds like people are really interested in it. Maybe people can look on theoir other bike forums for interested people?
This is shaping up well, let’s keep posting and keeping at the top of the page.
I’m up for donating stuff and know a couple of others who’ll sign up. I’ve also got the ear of a contact who might come up with a shed load of stuff.
So how do we get this going properly? Practical ideas are needed.
(Oh. If you think I’m particularly pro Palestinian or something, let me tell you that the only Palestinian guy I’ve ever worked with was a coimplete pain in the arse. It’s simple, I’m pro biker and a bit against early death.)
Not sure if anyone has followed whats happened with the current convoy of aid that left the UK on 5th Dec, but they are currently stuck in Jordan as the Egyptians are not letting the convoy in. Anyway, as a starting point I decided to contact Viva Palestina who organise the convoy to ask whether it would be possible for a convoy of bikers to be a part of their next convoy.
This is the email I sent…
As you can all see, my English is not great, but its a starting point I guess.
I don’t want to seem as though I am hijacking this idea from others LOL but maybe we can put together a team who could lead this idea?
NinjaJunkie, ItsTheMechanic or OldGuy, do one of you want to take the lead on this?
A truly inspired idea. The community should be able to collect a significant amount of kit. The Palestinians are a very resourceful bunch, more power to them for breaching the Zionist blockade.
Good effort Miz, any response yet? I’m also watching the VivaPalestina updates to see if they’ll get into Egypt at last…
We should probably tag onto their next convoy (I believe this is the 3rd?)
Bikes in Iran are limited to 250cc.
Over the last couple of years one of my best customers has been NITC (National Iranian Tanker Company) and I’ve got to know some of the guys pretty well.
Anyone, some guys have been buying full on bikes like blades in dubai, stripping the bikes down, and then smuggling them into Iran in stages where they are then rebuilt.
Just a thought, if we dealt direct with the Hamas government we might be able to swap for some used Ak’s - thus addressing our own motorcycle security worries.
Excellent work Miz - keep us posted.
No reply yet, I only recently contacted them. Will keep you all posted.
Looks like George Galloway could do with a crash helmet himself, if this article is correct.
Apparently his convoy are in Egypt and the Egyptian police were telling them to use an Israeli checkpoint to go into Gaza. The convoy people apparently didn’t want to do that as they were concerned the Israelis would take some of the items they were transporting, so it seems some convoy members had a bit of a fight with the Egyptian police.
Looks like they have finally made it. http://www.vivapalestina.org/home.htm
Yes Galloway did have to fight the Egyptians.
