sorry meant to say motorcyclists :stuck_out_tongue:

ah yes plenty of them supposedly.

Load of f*cking metrosexuals! :stuck_out_tongue:

And can anyone PLEASE explain to me why on earth you’d want to buy a B-King… you could smuggle illegal immigrants carrying very big badly packed backpacks in those pipes for cryin outloud

What makes a biker and what makes a motorcyclist?:stuck_out_tongue:

Is it type of bike? A biker has: a Harley? A Vespa? A Honda 400/4 classic? A Triumph? A Kawasaki widow maker? A tricyle? A mobility scooter? A push bike? A custom built and painted cruiser? A KTM? Or nothing at all, is it all a state of mind:cool:

Is it profession? Is a true biker is an outlaw gangster, cruising the highways and byways with the boys, having special initiation ceremonies and all over body tattoos of skulls and naked women, carrying a few sawn offs inside the leathers and making his living in league with south American cartels. Or is a true biker crusing the highways of the A23 on his/her Honda Hornet in the rush hour traffic, wearing a suit and a pullover under his/her Gortex and carrying a copy of the London Times?

Is it weather? Is a true biker out in all weathers, rain, shine, or hail and snow, braving the elements? Or is a true biker happy to get the train and bike on a nice, sunny day?

Is it food? Does a true biker eat fish, chips, mushy peas and gravy washed down with a pint of beer? Or does a true biker only drink organic Frappuchinos and eat only natural foods specially plucked that morning from mother earth’s soil?

Is it clothes? Leather? Gortex? Or a nice coat and heels with an open face helmet?

Is it hairstyle? Does a true biker have wild hair and even if bald, have a stick on greying pony tail? Or is it short back and sides?

This could be a whole new thread!! But, In am intrigued - go on- what is a biker and what is a motorcyclist?:hehe::w00t:

Fixed.

in my opinion its the type of person and lifestyle.

am not going into the ins and outs but just cos you have abike dont make you a biker!

hmmmmm im guessing youll offend a few people :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh go on, please go into the ins and outs!! ‘Type of person’ and ‘lifestyle’ that’s too vague Choprocker. Okay - if you go to the Bulldog bash every year and are a member of the HAs and like cruising Highway 66 with members of AC DC does that make you a biker? And if you go to work at an Estate Agents and like a nice glass of South African Chardonnay and are a member of New Labour, does that make you a motorcyclist?I am waiting…

you’ll be waiting a long time with your petty baiting.

in my opinion i think it comes down to nitrous and turbo chargers

but hey thats just my opinion

I totally agree

I reckon anyone that rides a bike like the above, just has to be a biker … :hehe:

maby if it had a turbo charger on it

would be cool to see the front wheel 18 feet in the air

I agree with Choprocker - I personally think ‘Biker’ refers to the very distinctive social, ethnic and cultural milieu which spawned the Hell’s Angels etc in California and their offshoots in the UK and Europe. This culture encompasses a certain kind of lifestyle, dress, music etc.

In this respect I would class myself as a motorcyclist and not a biker.

Biker is just a catch-all term which people who do not ride bikes use to refer to anyone who rides a motorbike - everyone from the metrosexual who wobbles about on his shop serviced Ducati monster 600 at weekends when the sun is out - to the real thing - some hard as nails, ride in all weathers, oily, custom chop riding, camo trouser wearing, heavy metal listening, shaven headed, bearded Hell’s Angel - in recent decades the machinery and look of some of these people has become more sophisticated and exotic - he might sport crusty traveller type dreadlocks, wear a simpson bandit lid and be riding a Turbo Busa. He will be very mechanically knowledgeable, weld etc and will have carried out all the mods (including engine) to his bike himself.

Ah ha, that is a most enlightening post Ninja Junkie. ;)But what I am wondering is, is there room for a meeting in the middle, like a hybrid of the two? Or is it one or t’other? Say can you be a Hell’s Angels loving, drug cartel, AC/DC, custom bike building, welding, mechanical tattoo artist biker from Monday to Thursday and a metrosexual motorcyclist sipping a baby cham on a yellow Fazer on Friday and Saturday?

Also what about Jay Dobyns, the undercover cop who infiltrated the Hells Angels and wrote an expose, rides a Harley and has always thought of himself as a biker? Is he a true biker or just a motorcyclist?

And should we call ourselves the London Motorcylists, or stick with the London Bikers? :hehe:

cool video, cor blimey at all the above!lol

I don’t think there is a hybrid - the true Hells Angel/outlaw type Biker is a tribe apart - it’s not a pose or fancy dress - many of these guys are involved in organised crime (drugs distribution) and members periodically get banged up for murder (usually internecine).People can call and think of themselves what they like - but if you wan’t to be accurate about the derivation and meaning of certain terms like ‘biker’ then you have to look at it from a social and historical perspective. Based on this socio/historical perspective a ‘biker’ and ‘biker culture’ refers to the gangs of young men who emerged in the U.S.A. after WWII in places like California - they rode stripped down Harleys and a few well known incidents like the Hollister riots established a reputation for drunken rowdiness. This nascent movement crystallised into groups like the Hell’s Angels, who developed a very distinctive mode of dress, style of custom motorcycle all held together by strict initiation ceremonies and a life that was often lived outside of the law, involving crime, and serious violence which resulted in stretches in prison. Money was made by controlling the supply and distribution of drugs to the counter-culture in places like California. Turf wars between rival groups of bikers sometimes resulted in serious violence.Similar groups emerged in the UK and Europe in the late 1960s and 70’s.
