And I wasn’t really all that far from loosing the bottom half of my left leg…
Why? Because I’m a tw*t.
After the A40 coming on to Marylebone Road, I was filtering through traffic. I stopped between an AA van and Volvo Estate.
I had forgotten that the AA van was towing a trailer with the car on the back of it… Completely dumbass thing to do but left work massively stressed out and blah blah blah blah
Anyway…as the traffic began to move my bike or pegs got caught up. Not quite sure how / what but my calf and ankle became entangled in something and crushed. On my other side my right leg was pinned up against the Volvo and holding me upright. I managed to beep the horn and the AA driver thankfully stopped moving (else I think my leg would have been torn off!!).
The lady in the Volvo seemed a bit confused when I was asking her to “move that why…my leg is crushed against your car!”
It was no ones fault but my own. The Volvo got really scraped up but the lady wasn’t bothered at all and said she didnt want to claim etc. She just kept asking about me!
Anyway…I made it home. As I write this the pain seems to be increasing. A lot. But I haven’t lost any mobility in my ankle or toes etc so I reckon I’m OK…if there are any doctors, nurses or otherwise in-the-know people who feel otherwise then please let me know! My leg is swelling quite nicely and bleeding a little, but nothing too bad.
Really sorry to hear that. I use that road a lot and it is very unpleasant most of the time.
Why haven’t you gone to an A&E department? The swelling of your leg will only increase over the next 24 hours. If the swelling cuts off your lower leg blood supply, it will be really unpleasant. Equally if you’ve had a closed fracture or get an embolus of blood clot or fat tissue from the injury, then you could get other problems.
I really don’t understand why people ask for help from a forum and not go to seek professional health. You really need an x-ray after the injury to exclude the above problems, as well as getting a check over.
If you do take painkillers, non-steroidals like Ibuprofen or Voltarol are better for reducing swelling than stronger opiate medication.
Slam your index finger in the door…it will take your mind off the pain in your leg…works every time.
Okay, bad joke but I couldn’t help it… a women rode over the side of my boot and I couldn’t move. Surprisingly the pain wasn’t too bad, considering it is the bones in the side of your foot.
Your story sounds like it’s worth a pint, hope your bike is okay. If the swelling seriously balloons don’t leave it. Doubtful it’s internal bleeding but you never know.
I’m with Romeo and the others on this mate! Get yourself to A+E and get checked out sooner rather than later!
With an accident like that you could be looking at anything from heavy bruising, to fractures, tissue damge, crush injuries etc… At the very worst, it could end up with clots forming from the internal bleeding, resulting in a lot of unpleasantness!
Going back a few years, I managed to fracture my left shin and stupidly didn’t get it looked at. Within a few months it had healed with a slight ridge, which led onto circulation problems due to the irritation it caused. I ended up having to get an operation to shave the ridge off my shin. :pinch:
I agree with everyone saying that you should see A+E bloody fast!
As for trailers - I am always very careful when filtering between queues involving trailers for this very reason. Glad you were not more seriously hurt.
