bikegrab/bike transporting

transported the bike with jonesy last sat to take the r1 somewhere nice and safe whilst we tried to hurt ourselves on snowboardsgetting it up was easy  getting it down was a bit more nerve racking! riding a motorbike backwards is odd anyway, without going downhill on a flexing piece of metalā€¦ Did it more than once to check i could do it ok, with jonesy p*ssing himself at the side at my worried face as i did it!

that reartyre grab is a good bit of kit. that combined with the r&g top straps, the bike wasnā€™t moving anywhere

Quality set up there JB:cool: Iā€™d be inclined to put a bungee around the front brake too, itā€™ll only take a second and will stop any rocking if anything slackens.

Donā€™t do this the night before as you can put undue ā€˜prolongedā€™ stress on the master cylinder seals

I want a pick up now.

dont do it at all on the brakeā€¦you need to have that front wheel fixed or it will moveā€¦I strapped up the zx7r in a very similar way on my trailor with the forks bottomed out and it still bouced up and fell side ways by the wheel slipping from underneathā€¦

They are real slippery little buggers when they want to beā€¦

I would put a strap around the front wheel and have it fastened to the front and the back so it simply cannot move anywhereā€¦as is it looks like it will slip the front wheel sideways and fall overā€¦

Looks fine to me mate, I would probably bolt two bolcks of wood to the deck either side of the front wheel, or try Ebay for a proper channel just to stop the the front from moving side to side, (as TSLO said) although the bed is already channeled.

I think you might have a problem with a bike grab, as I do on the trailer, as the back wheel is comming to the top of the ramp the front is trying to enter the bike grab, this requires an extra heeaaave to get it into the grab, but once its in you can walk away to check for hernias before you have to bo any strapping.

I might pop down to Brands on the 1st to inspect your ramp, as my scaffold board can be a bit slippery in the wet.

cheers guys

think that the front and rear combo was keeping the front tyre pretty firmly wedged in place but will defo be keeping an eye on it. if a cheapish chock/2nd hand bike grab comes up i may add that to the rig (will prob make it easier setting up the straps etc anyway)

the rear grab allows the rear shock to work rather than being compressed down, so is supposed to keep it from bouncing around as much allegedly (rather than rachetting down with the rear subframe/pegs).

the middle ramp flexes a fair bit with my heavy ass on the bike so may have a look at fixing the ramps together to spread the weight and make the ramps more stable. the US ones use a rod with an R-pin to bolt all three together. could just drill and bolt them them together

Nice set up. Pricey though all the specialist kit.

I slap mine into my broā€™s van for trackdays. Ride it up a plank straight into the back (itā€™s a trackbike though, probably wouldnā€™t try it with a nice trick black R1 like yours).

Front wheel tight up against bulkhead. bar straps and ratchet straps to anchor points, plank one side and wooden chock the either side of front tyre. Tools and gear shoved in around it. Tighten down straps to compress forks and slap a cable tie round front brake and bar when setting off (not over night as pointed out)

Robertā€™s your mothers brother. Takes around 5-10 minutes all told and despite caning it Colin McRae style round the twisty country rounds of north Lincolnshire when late for Cadwell once, the bugger never even shifted an inch.

Net cost - About Ā£15 for the ratchets

Mate i can honestly say that iā€™ve transported my trackbike a fair few thousand miles last year without even the slightest hint of a problem.Forks bottomed outā€¦ Looks like youā€™ll be buying new seals a plenty this year then!I normally transport my bike to trackdays with 1 R&G bar strap and 4 ratchets, R&G strap across top yoke and bars supporting the bike from any side to side movementa and 2 straps pulling the bike forwards. always worked for me, although saying that i have seen so many people strapping the bike down VERY VERY wrong at trackdays using more straps that i do badly!

haha yep, defo bit more pricey than that.

to be fair, the rear grab and extra ramps are possibly a bit over kill, but in the long run theyā€™re prob not a bad investment. have seen clips of guys using planks up to pickup trucks but didnā€™t fancy the risk!

R&G soft yoke straps and ratchets Ā£25

Rear wheel grab Ā£75

3x ramps Ā£140

watching my face as I get the bike back down - priceless

JB - ā€œDonā€™t just stand there laughing come and do somethingā€

Me - ā€œlike what?ā€

JB - ā€œGet ready to catch me!ā€

:hehe:

but youā€™re so strong and manly jonesy :stuck_out_tongue:
