bike wont start when its cold

well its been coming but the first frost has caused it not to start and this happens each winter the damn thing wouldnt even bump start. theres only 32k on the clock and well serviced.

had the carb sensor changed carbs cleans and balanced yet still it wont fire when cold.

any ideas?

battery - the cold sucks the power out of it

well its flat now damn thing wouldnt fire.

i had similar probs with the CBF last winter… old battert + cold = bump starts in the morning

at least i was nice and warm (sweaty) for the ride it.

id put it on the trickle charge and check it the next day. or if you wanna save your self some trouble just put a new battery in

had the bike for over 5 years and never changed the battery so that must be the problem. ill call around today to get one today hopefully

Does sound like battery. V-Twins need a decent kick off the battery to start. Make sure you get a decent one.

and maby buy an optimate charger they are about £50 and they keep the battery top’d up

new battery n optimate does the job on my CBR600, was struggling in cold n damp plus damn headlights are on all time which doesnt help with starting, gonna see if I can swap the switchgear for one that lets me turn them off like on my 'bird

cheers im getting a gel one in abit 80 notes and get a optimate soon its for my dads fazer the sv has never let me down in 2 winters so far

I bought the oxford oximiser (£25) two months ago and since no problems starting up. Even today the bike started without any problems. And I only use it every three weeks or so when the battery starts showing less umph.

Bike didn’t even need a new battery, so the charger works really well.

probably wants a layer of paint to warm it up!!! i’d not start if i was naked all the time:P

Bet you’re fun in bed then;)

my wife does complain about the snoring:laugh:

nothing wrong with the sv henry and itll be painted soon ish

Optimisers are great as long as you have somewhere to leave them plugged in!

I have the same problem but it isn’t the battery because as soon as it is warmer it starts up:) and bumb starting isn’t really working either. Guess I should probably put the kettle on and pour it down on it. I start it up and then it dies…

Old bike '98, sounds to me like the alternator, someone said if I use teh choke to try about half way as the rich petrol might just choke it. So I think it is just cold and not much I can do about it except try a few times.

I had this problem too. Might replace my battery.

I hooked up my CBF 250 after it was sat around for a 2 weeks without use to a car battery to get a charge. Can’t imagine you wanna do that every morning though!

Exactly, no power in my garage, took the bike out this morning and oh my god nothing:w00t: Had to jump start the bloody thing and bring the optimizer to work to leave it on, took 4 hours to complete the cycle:D

Just to make it clear it’s been in the garage for 1 week without use and alarm was not on winter mode:w00t:

So new tactics needed, going to put it on winter mode every time i put it back in the garage and hopefully it will be ok as long as i give it a run once a week:D failing that upgrade battery and pray;)
