Bike v train

Started my new job yesterday (hence why I couldn’t come to the newbie meet last night - sorry). Decided it wouldn’t look good to turn up on my first day in my leathers with helmet hair, so I took the train. It took just over an hour and a half to get from my house in Surrey to Hammersmith!!!

Day two (and they haven’t sacked me yet - phew) and I rock in on the bike. Guess how long it takes? 30 mins. That is just ridiculous.

Looks like I will be investing in some textile kit and maybe a winter bike now…

Ditto !!

Home to Hammersmith on the Train with two changes = 50 Mins

Home to Hammersmith on the Bike =

Peak Time = 25 Mins

Off Peak = 12 Mins

There’s no competition really. I live less than 4 miles from my place of work in the West End and since they closed Regents Park station for refurbishment, it takes me 45 mins on the train and 10 mins on the bike. It only takes 20 mins in the car!! Sorry Ken but you’re not getting me on public transport

Being a relatively slow filterer it takes me about 40 mins to an hour on bike from out in the sticks of essex. On train, door to door with a 20 min walk (cant stand the tube so refuse to use it) about 1 hour 20 mins.

Normally use the train though, as it’s an extension of my bed! Will shortly be tucking my bike in for the winter. Having said that, am on bike today, as have IAM night tonight.

Nice one! TOLD YOU SO TOLD YOU SO TOLD YOU SO!!!

Public transport sucks donkey ****

Bow to Epsom - leave at 7:20am get to work at 9:05am Tube/Overland and Walking

Bow to Epsom on the bike - 50 minutes of grin and filter frenzy. Wakes you up for the day.

Quite strangely the bike vs train for me works out about the same give or take 10 mins. Wimbeldon to Waterloo 15-20 mins train, walk accross to embankment (10 mins) or northern line up (5 mins). So basically I am looking at 40 mins door to door. The bike is roughly the same…

I think the virtually straight line by train from Wimbledon to Waterloo is just super quick.

I’ve converted 3 of my mates so far to bikes to get to work instead of public transport and they all thank me for it I sometimes have to go to different offices during the day at work ie: Kensington to Tottenham Court Road, takes around 45-1 hour door to door using public poo but on the bike 15 mins and costs me next to nothing too!

Kensington to Crayford - 50 mins, no public transport can offer that

Wierd Tex!!!

Me Earlsfield ( on the Wimbledon Line ) to Egeware Rd.

6 miles

Good day train 45mins

Bad Day Train 1hr 15mins

Average day bike = 15 minutes!!!

dunno ? I guess I ride through some hectic traffic on the way in. Wandsworth Town area is mad and then getting over waterloo bridge is just a piss take especially with one lane being closed for god knows how long !..

I have no idea about the ride from Earlsfield to Edgeware Road but I do know the district line is super slow.

Today I took the train in cos doing some drinks after work. Left the house at 7:20, got to work just after 8… as I say, the bike would of maybe been 5-10 minutes quicker if that.

P.S: I also ride at almost double the speed limit in some areas i.e. past the battersea park power station so speed isn’t an issue…

for me when I was in london

train leave at 7:30 get in at 8:55

bike leave at 8:20 and in at 8:50!!

nuff said me thinks

now in croydon 45mins on the pooway or 20 mins on bike

again nuff said me thinks

Its worse for us carrot crunchers! I live in Rickmansworth and work In Watford. I have to start work between 8:30 and 9:00.

Bus would have to catch at 7:05 to get in on time (and get a 45 minute ride with people going to sign on) Train (after brisk 20 min walk) would have to catch at Ricky Met change at Moor Park on to Watford Met (and another brisk 20 min walk).
So public transport wqould take between an 3/4 of an hour and an hour.

Cage would take me half an hour, bike sometimes takes me as long as 15 minutes, 10 during school holidays. Then there is the issue of changing when i get here.

Its the District Line. Its really wan*. Fulham to City on bike 20 mins max (speed limits and lane discipline are a bit advisory sometimes :blush District line up to an hour. No brainer.

Tex - yer right Wandsworth one way is a wenk…

How about coming in past Southfields ( or from plough lane ) cross merton road - Garratt Lane - Up Magdalen Road / Burntwood Road

left into Trinity then either right past Spencer park and onto York road or get onto York road at Wandsworth Rbout, left at Landrover garage (Lombard Road ) - hug the river through Battersea Village - right at Battersea Park, left Prind of Wales Drive - takes you straight into Nine ELms Lane and Vauxhall one way.

Seems quicker to me ( missing Wandsworth One way and York road through Battersea )???
