BIKE STUTTERS WHEN HOT

Does anyone have any ideas why the following is happening:

7R starts fine, runs fine - however when it gets hot (e.g. not super hot - just mid-way on the temp gauge before the fan cuts in after crawling around town on a warm day) it can stutter a bit on acceleration - like it’s only running on three cylinders or something - after giving it a bit of throttle and getting air over the rad and the temp down again everything is fine and back to normal.

Thanks for any opinions.

These are Ram air? Is it suffering on air intake and therefore maybe over fuelling?

Air filter clean?

Yes - it’s ram air with a couple of huge air scoops on the front - I think you may be right on the fuelling - although I have heard mention of coil/spark issues in relation to this complaint.

blocked air filter …

carb sync

Yeah - could be - only happens when it gets hot.

could it be one of the coil leads or the coil pack breaking down when it gets hot?

I think you could definitely be on the money there CH - that’s the impression I’m getting after doing a bit of research.

It’s one of those things that could have a variety of causes - but the coil side of things is definitely looking like the most likely cause of the problem at the moment.

Ninja, buddy, you need one of those reliable Italian models. These Japanese bikes look great in the showroom, but they’re tempramental sods out on the road.

Running

Def either Coil Pack, Lead or Plug.

Have a look at all of the plugs - one maybe a bit rusty if the lead hadn’t seated properly.
If so replace lead and plug.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally hoist by my own petard etc.:smiley:

To be fair it’s a decade old, was totally abused by the previous owner and has done 20k plus miles - not like the brand new pampered Ducati I saw a guy wheeling home on the pavement because it got slightly wet in the rain a few years back.

Thanks Stretchbev - yeah this is the road it looks like I’m gonna be going down to sort this.
