Anyone used the ‘Pay By Phone’ thing to park in town today?
I parked as usual but have the first month free…
still not happy though.
Why is the first month free?
Good job I saw this, I’ll be in Westminster parking bit on Wednesday
if you signed up to pay be phone before the 4th of August you got August free…
sorry to say this but i think you will have to pay
The BBC news said that Westminster would not be ticketing in August whilst it beds in. Personally I am glad I pre-registered before 3 August so that I don’t have to pay in August anyway.
I walked past a bay in Victoria that was crawling with parking attendants (or whatever they’re called these days) checking the bikes thoroughly.
I’ll nick over later and see it they’ve ticketed anything.
No tickets anyway.
Doh, totally missed that option, should of paid more attention to the small print.
Most of the charges I can charge on as expenses so not too bad but still a pain.
… does this mean i don’t need a ticket anyway for this month? the signs around my work say that it wouldn’t be effective til the 11th anyway… i’ll have to check the latest update

Provisionally yes, it was reported today that no tickets will be issued to bikes in the first month. I say ‘provisionally’ as reporters often get the facts wrong, so you might want to check this with Westminster directly. If true I cannot see why they wanted people to sign up before the 4th if the first month was going to be free anyway.
Incase you’re not aware, there is no physical parking ticket you need to stick to your vehicle. Bike charging has been made possible by the introduction of ‘pay by phone’. You will see the instructions displayed on each bike bay. A lot of people have found paying by phone extremely difficult, so I would recommend that you pay on the Westminster website, that’s if you are able to plan your journey ahead.
Another tax on the biker.
If I was charging for parking I would want as many people as possible signed up in advance so that on day one I didn’t have 16,000 motorcyclists all calling my call centre at 8.30 am.
I would also stagger the roll out across the borough so each region started on a different week for the same reason. However you do something like this there will be problems at the start, but you can minimise them. For example, to avoid thousands of unsuccessful appeals, after a week of operation I would not be at all surprised if Westminster sent round their traffic wardens to check on which bikes have paid, and have them ticket the ones that have not with a warning.
Good point I hadn’t thought of it like that. Yes some people did have trouble calling this morning, so this could have been worse without the pre sign up.
