Bike Maintenance

After yesterdays…ahem…incident

I have decided maybe i should look into a bike maintenance course, does anyone know of any that are good?

I am in kent near SE , a kent based one would be better for me, i think, unless its in SE london. :D:D

all you need is a mate to show you

or at the ace one day time you will soon pick it up:)

I have 2 very good friends who live right near me, I can learn from them, but i thought a course would be a good thing as i know nothing right now, and would like to learn how to look after my bike properly, inside out

not un les you do a 2/3 year course its just basic chain lights bat: top ups ect

i believe lambeth college do em, they were at the excel show too giving advise/brochures.

Now getting a little away from your post this gives me an idea.
why not have our very own Londonbikers maintenance day/course?
not speaking for myself as i know enough to generally maintain my bike but as post shows there are a few people on here that maybe could have some pointers but we also have the talent on here for them to be shown.
so can we not arrange a day/place where maybe a couple of people (hopefully full time bike mechanics) can just have a day of bike maintenance to show newbys etc?
could maybe do it at the ace (with permission of course).

will put this idea on the general too.

think thats great myself

First place to check would be your local/county council to see what evening classes they offer, lots do basic 10-12 week courses that should cover what you want to learn to do.

If nothing local, then the one that Merton College runs seems to get good reviews & it’s in Morden, so although not exactly SE London, you wouldn’t need to brave too much London traffic to get there from Kent, just a jaunt around the M25 & pop up the A217.

lesson no.1. how to use an abba stand:w00t:

Feck off :w00t:

I was down at Lambeth College yesterday evening, talking to John Ryan who runs the motorcycle maintenance course. He is very good and the set up there is fantastic. Worth giving him a shout. 07887988691.

Personally I’m okay with the basics but it’d be interesting for some of us who don’t know so much to chip in and buy a non runner and get it fixed up over a few days. I’m thinking more than just oil changing etc. but carb cleaning/balancing etc. and other more complex jobs.

Naturally it could be done over several weekends if someone has room to store the bike and meet. But I’d certainly be interested in that.

What do you guys think of this course,I dont even know how to change my tyre
