Yesterday afternoon I was visiting a friend and parked my beloved Tuono on the street. 10 minutes later I hear the alarm and rush to the window to see some knobhead picking my bike up from the street. He’d reversed into it while trying to park and hit it with some force by the looks of the dent in his bumper.
Luckily he hit the crash bung with his bumper and the other crash bung took most of the fall. It has a scratched bar end, broken foot peg and bent crash bung on the right hand side. the exhaust has a small scratch but seems to have escaped any serious damage.
The guy has offered to pay for damages rather than involve his insurance (if he actually has any) which after consulting the garage amounts to £180 for parts and labour.
Here’s hoping he pays up. I keep my bike in immaculate condition and there is nothing more annoying than when something like this happens through no fault of your own! Rant over. Thanks.
He wasn’t stoned was he. Guess you’re justifiably angry at the situation and his incompetence at reversing. At least he’s honest about it though. I’ve had previous bikes reversed into once by a wealthy middle-aged 4x4 driver who ran a hotel in Spain and did a runner, and the second time, by a middle-aged woman in a blue Peugeot who did a runner too.
I’ve had people reverse into my bike twice in 3 months! all in the same carpark outside my work!!! its ridiculous some people don’t really look behind them when reversing…
hope it all gets sorted
I had the same happen to me in Islington. My blade was reversed into by a woman driving a van. Unfortunately, the tank and top of the fairing hit a highish kerb, which did quite a bit of cosmetic damage. It turned out her insurance had expired. My insurers (MCE) said that I would have to claim through the Motor Insurers Bureau, which would mean reporting the incident to the Police. Once I knew this, I called her and let her know. I told her I wasn’t malicious, and offered to let her give me £700 for the damage, which she did. This stopped my bike becoming a cat C or cat D write off, and it enabled me to change the colour of the bike … which is all fine by me.
I’m pretty sure he was stoned, either that or a bit slow. Choprocker, what did you expect me to do, perform a citizens arrest?
I spoke to him yesterday and explained the damage and what it will cost. He said he had to speak to his mum and would call back! I’m waiting now for that call. I have his address and phone numbers so will not stop hassling the idiot until he pays up. It is an inconvenience I could do without however.
I would inform your insurance company anyway, at least you have already reported it to them. So, if the stoned guy decides not to pay, your insurer can take up the case.
Tell him that your gonna claim of their insurance company this will speed them up!
I know how you feel. I had my bike knocked over about 3 weeks ago by a Harringey Enterprise Dustcart which reversed into it! Luckily (?!!) the damage wasn’t as bad as I feared - both indicators on the LH side and the gear lever snapped off. Miraculously there was no damage to the handlebars or tank. It’s repaired and back on the road and the insurance claim is in. Just got to wait for the feckers to pay up now
