BIKE FRIENDLY RADAR DETECTOR

Can anybody please offer some Pros/Cons for different radar/gatso camera detectors
i know i should just slow down but to be honest i ride a motorbike for gawds sake and that really isnt going to happen,(i dont kick the arse out of speed limits on urban roads or anychance of killing a kid,
i am off to france soon and would like something that will work all over europe
(i know they are illegal over there but thats a rick i will take)

you can get something called iforad from datatool whitch i have and have fitted to many bikes but they only tell you were fixed cameras are but it covers the whole of europe i can supple and fit if interested

Equipment designed to warn of speed traps is illegal in France - very illegal and the Police take the use of such equipment very seriously. If you get stopped expect a stiff on the spot fine and for your equipment to be confiscated and destroyed. Note that satnavs with databases of speed traps are not illegal in France (although Les Flick can take some persuading of that) unlike Switzerland were even having a safety camera database on your satnav is illegal.

False plate or a sat nav with the scamera database on it.

thanks for the advice folks, like the data tool thingy, also the false plate in france seems a winner to be honest

As far as I know they hand out on the spot fines (they’ll take you to a cash point if you need to), so not sure how that’d be any good.

I’d go with the false plate, just switch a number round. They haven’t got access to our DVLA database so they can’t check. You’ll get an on the spot fine but if they try and give you points just give them a John Doe.

I’m thinking of fitting the inforad datatool thingy to warn me of cameras. I’m also thinking of putting anti-flash paint on the no.plate.Not sure how effective the anti-flash is and I know the old-bill don’t like it (i think that they are going to ban it).

I’ve seen sportsbikes in the summer with mud ‘innocently’ ‘smeared’ on the no.plate.

Woodster mate - regarding the info rad - if you have two bikes can you purchase two sets of aerials and warning lights (fitted to each bike) while using just the one GPS receiver - which you alternate between bikes - depending on which one you are riding? Obviously I don’t want to fork out for two Inforads.

my father in law used the spray and thought he was invicible, silly old screw got 3 points week later ha ha ha

Good to know Jimblade

It’s more than an on the spot fine in France. My mate got caught using a radar detector, he was arrested, finger printed, mug shot and £2000 bail for pending court appearance!

I got caught speeding in a trap 148 kph, stopped 20kms further down the road, on the spot fine (didn’t have enough money) car impounded in service area (with wife & Kids inside), pay up or appear in court the next day!

holy crap, that is pretty extreme, they may as well slowly and surely pulled off you finger nails one by one at that rate

It’s tough, but it’s fair I think. If they don’t they’ll get people riding with false plates an all sorts of cr@p, and judging on how efficient the British system is, they’d never be able to pursue something from there, so they’re just making sure they’re getting the money.
