Just want to send my message across as I was just hit by a car last Saturday morning when the bloke turned right without indicator while I was overtaking his car.Thanks to my gear all I got was some very painful bruises on my left leg.my new boots,gloves and leather trousers had a lot of damage, but hey that is the reason we have to wear these.
My ABS worked fantastically well and my gear save me big time.I was dragged by the car for a good distance.
Think twice before going out on your jeans.I would had my leg sliced in 3 or 4 parts if wasn’t for my trousers.Funny enough the previously 3 days I only had my jeans on the way to work, but because the weather was a little bit cold I decided to use it all.

I can’t wear Gortex or Leather trousers, to fat, but thankfully I can wear Draggin Jeans…better than nought!

Sorry to hear about your accident but why were you overtaking where there was a right turn? I never overtake where there is a turn and it has saved me a lot of offs. It’s just too risky as most cagers these days see indicating as optional extra or only indicate once they are about to turn and you would have committed to an overtake. I have a set of rules that I have drummed into myself to try and stay safe and no 1 is don’t overtake where there is a right turn, no matter how tempting.
Brilliant advice! If every biker had the same approach as you, TheLoneGunman, there would be a tiny fraction of the number of accidents and deaths amongst bikers that there currently is.
Every single one of us should take careful heed of these very wise words. There’s nothing worse than doing a fast overtake, to find the vehicle you overtake suddenly swerve into your path and bang, there’s nothing you can do, you hit it, bike gets smashed and bones get broken. This is the final experience ever of a depressingly large number of bikers and pillions. What I call the “classic bike accident” (nothing to do with classic bikes).

I’m very careful (seen too many stupid car drivers over the years) and almost always wear the right gear - so I back your advice.
Went for a short trip on Sunday, just a couple of miles, and leathers would be a real hassle at the other end. Wore leathers anyway, and on way back came to a roundabout with left fork & right fork; 3 lanes, all clearly marked - inside goes left, middle & outer go right - just follow the lines. Me in middle lane, going right, lights change, follow lines, just as get to left fork I catch a flash out of the corner of my eye so I back off throttle and cover brake…car comes flashing past from outer lane right across me and into left fork (just) - I braked instinctively and just avoided T-boning him.
This one was bizarre & completely, utterly stupid. I challenge any biker to have expected it. I could only ride a little further & was shaking for the next 10 minutes.

Thanks for the messages guys.I’m getting better quickly.As mentioned before my trousers saved me big time.Just got a new RST leather today for £100.00 wasn’t that bad.My bike only broke the left indicator and Mr.Ray from tippets in Surbiton just managed to change that.
I have been riding for over 17 years and never ever have been involved in a crash.I will definitely take the advice not to overtaking near any right turn.My accident was on the corner of Sandy Lane and Avenue Road in Teddington.I guess this was a warning as sometimes we do make mistakes and end up regretting things.On this occasion I am 100% sure it wasn’t my fault, but will be much more aware now.

makes me feel better knowing you have bee riding 17 years without an off i would like to get there I guess as you say u made a human error but generally your riding must be good to have gone 17 years welldone for that!!
I myself like to think I ride without my balls and hopefully will be alive to tell the tale thats not saying i dont make mistakes i make plenty just hope i am lucky and learn from them.
Still be wary of left turns - a lot of tw@ts think they drive an artic lorry and swing out to the right before turning left
