Bigging Hill Airshow 2009

I am looking for a vantage point whereas I can have a glimpse of some of the airplane flying, without having to pay, as I will not be spending any longer than an hour, and will be showing it to a friend while passing by on a motorbike. Does anyone know of a good vantage point??

Yeah there is a pub on a hill and have been there before and see al the aircraft. Unfortunately I dont know the exact location!! Quiller or Killer#1 will know…

just ride the along the main road past the airfield on the day and you’ll see the bikes , if you get there early you get park uop right opposite the main runway …great view from there

This info. is a bit old, 'cos so am I, but as kids we’d cycle to Down Village and head out south towards Luxted, second turning on the right (before Down House) there was a small road that lead up to the local golf course club house. There was a right hand bend in the road where we’d hide the bikes and strike off into the woods heading about south west right up to the wire at the airfield perimeter.

It might still all be there or it might all have been closed off by now.

Alternative is Leaves Green, take the turning by the pub on the east side of the main road. Bet the spoil sports have got that stopped up as well.

Worth a scouting mission as there are some nice country roads around there and you can always get a cup of coffee and drool over some bikes at Bat M/C’s to take a break.

They block off access to Leaves Green during the air show. Think all the cars pulling up on there was doing a lot of damage. There are a few pubs heading upto the hill, one (The George I think it is called) on the corner of Main Road (A233) and Milking Lane, sells tickets to watch the show there.

Best bet is just to pull up on the verge on the opposite side of the airport fence on the A233 (main road). I often see bikers pulled up there, but it does get quite crowded.

If you do come along, make sure it is by bike. Cars get stuck for ages in traffic, as there are not many roads in or out of The Hill.

Sorry a bit off topic but love the fact that theres at least one George pub everywhere you go

If only I could sit in my back garden with a beer to watch!!!

I’m wrong about the name; it is the Kings Arms. I am embarrassed to say that it is my local, so I should know what it is called.

Since we are into digressions, when that was an operational RAF base (late Meteors and Hunters as I recall) the perimeter was so crap that we’d actualy get inside the wire and lay in the long grass beyond the end of the runway near the perimeter.

One heck of a buzz watching the things coming at you over the hump at take off speed and then the warm jet thrust hitting you as they went over at 100 ft.

Next buzz was scarpering before the RAF police and dogs turned up. Such innocent times.

Times used to be hard when i were a lad…

Oops… this ain’t the Sentence Game thread

Anyone knows if this road will be closed: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en-GB&geocode=&q=Green+hill,+Orpington,+Kent+BR6,+United+Kingdom&sll=51.333186,0.039225&sspn=0.018528,0.038452&ie=UTF8&ll=51.331228,0.046949&spn=0.018529,0.038452&z=15&iwloc=A

They don’t tend to close many, if any roads, but set up diversions, so that most of the roads are only a one way.

I’m going my coach so no stressful driving or getting cramp in my clutch peddle leg! :w00t:

Clutch pedal leg

What sort of bike is that?

tis the one on 4 wheels thats all boxed in. More than just me going so would be the car
