Big life change, going away for a while

Hello all,

Just wanted to let you all know what’s going on. Big changes are afoot in my life, and I’ve decided to grab the bull by the horns and do something totally different…

You will have remembered I made it back from Norway, with the help of many of you awesome LB members, and managed to get a job in IT, and eventually (after some time of enjoying Bigguses generous and well-appreciated hospitality) some digs of my own.

Now, suddenly things have totally turned on their head again. Our landlady here decided to be a Mad Bint and decide to give us Peaceful and Rent-Paying Tenants four weeks to get out of dodge, and a week later I get sacked from my job… just brilliant! Initial attempts on just getting another flat with my lovely flatmate were foiled by the fact that the landlords would call off the deal upon learning I can’t produce a work reference… a catch-22 situation. So the threat of ending up with no place to live at all is very real. And in the end I was forced to think about some pretty fundamental things in my life…

Basically, I’ve been tired of the IT job grind for a long time… I never last long in each job and cracking on will just be more of the same. I thought about driving lorries instead for years as well as looking for other alternatives, but I always lacked the money and/or time to actually follow through on it… so…

Rather than pissing away the money I’ve been squirreling away on trying to survive in London until yet another IT job is found, I’ve decided to leg it to Germany and get my HGV licence there. After a lengthy series of telephone discussions :w00t: my dad accepted this to be a Wise and Reasonable Plan and offered me some accomodation until this feat is accomplished. Once it is I will have to GTFO but until it is, I have a place to stay there.

Hence, me and my decrepit but still fully Functional Motorcycle will be sailing the seas to Europe on Friday night, where I hope to kick off all the paperwork next week Monday and sort first aid course, physical examination etc. Then if all goes well I will start my training shortly, and I’ll be able to use my stash of money to invest into my future instead of just wasting it away on survival, or some flash new motorbike

Once all is done, you will likely see me again over this way on these shores as I have much love for this country, this city, it’s people, it’s bikers, the whole atmosphere… However I will be likely driving around your Tesco groceries rather than slaving in an office, or risking my hide couriering on the streets of London.

Those of you that know me probably figured out I have a pretty colorful personality, and that I always tend to get at loggerheads with people, so I hope the sort of job where I have people in my face for a very small part of the day will allow me to actually last, and not switch jobs every few months…

Wish me luck in this undertaking, thanks to all of you who have supported me during my troubles, and I will see you all again at some point I’m sure. I’ll get down to Borough Market on Wednesday to say goodbye to various people, maybe I’ll see you there too.

So long,

  • Stefan Mechanic

Jeez, you’ve been up against it haven’t you?

Hope this one works out for you.

Veil Glueck und machs gut! Geben uns fortschritt geschichten.

O

Hope it works out for you

All the best sir !

Looks like you experienced an famous office back stabbing in The UK.

Good luck mein deutscher freund…

Pavel, you are so right. My boss acted all chummy with me in person, then rang me on my day off and told me I’m fired… what a coward!

Since I don’t have the intestinal fortitude to take more of the same abuse, I’m hoping a new career will be better…

Have any of you ever changed careers, and how did it work out for you?

Good luck dude, hope the HGV thing works out and you can bring a rig to BM!

Good luck mate, hope it works out for you.

good luck, hope it all works out

YEah man, hope it all works out. Truck driving around Europe rocks I reckon. Get a camera and shoot what you see

((((((((((((((((squishy hugs)))))))))))))

good luck with your journey, hope the career change works for you and you find our shores again soon.

My dad loved being a trucker… he says they are as friendly as bikers, so you should fit in really well. Just mind those layby stops and the urge to put suspenders on

Well it seems so long ago that we rallied round and got you some cash and a ferry ticket out of Norway: http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic190695-58-1.aspx?Highlight=norway

I’m sorry that things still aren’t working out for you but I truely hope that for your sake you will find somewhere to settle down and make a home.

Good luck!

I’ve just read the “Escape from Norway” thread and have to say I’m blown away by you guys. All that happened just before I joined LB and it just goes to underline what I allready know… You guys and gals are the best!

Mechanic…I hope you appreciate that I doubt very much whether any other forum would have rallied around like this lot did for you. I hope you repaid your debt, maybe not with cash, but with deeds:)

Good luck with your new venture, keep us posted:)

I hope you enjoy many happy years of “DIESEL DICK” in your new found choice of employment!!

Don’t bang the door on your way out! :Whistling:

Stefan, that sounds an excellent plan. Do the dishes etc whilst staying with ‘Papa’ and you won’t get kicked out too quickly!

Being a biker will make you a better HGV driver too.

Sorry I couldn’t make BM tonight to say ‘Au Revoir’ but I fully expect to see your rat-bike over here again soon.

p.s. Avoid Norwegian girlfriends…

Good luck with the LGV Test. I’m an LGV CE Driver and am looking for a way out of it! There are some good companies about, not many though. What ever you do… don’t work for Tesco. I’ve just quit with them and gone back to agency work. They’ll have you working 12 hour shifts, which is okay, but they don’t pay overtime. It’s all at day rate which is cack.

good luck with the test is it easer in germany than here.its hard here to get started once u got u r licence they wont employ u as u have no experance but keep going as there is always someone that will give new starters a chance.i agree with the above avoid tesco they treat u like crap and most big companys just treat u as a number.it can be a great life and theres so many differant types of work and hours that after trial and error u will find something to suit u
