Briefly made contact with one of our lucozade powered buddies. Honest it was accidental and unfortunately unavoidable. Before you crucify me- he appeared unhurt but I doubt he will be swerving out without looking again in a hurry.
Passing an orderly row of cyclists pretty much on the white line of the the bus lane at no more than 25mph when one decided he would do a Lance Armstrong and sprint past the cycle in front. Bad for him as he swerved right out a millisecond before I reached him. Of course he didn’t look, and didn’t show any sign of his forthcoming adrenaline burst. I thought about last minute avoiding action but the minicab arriving fast in the main carriageway put me off that idea. I braked hard and braced for impact but in the end we were both lucky. I think my handguard made contact with his handlebar since there was no cry of pain and he carried on regardless.
some of them ride blind folded i swear!, on sat i came up the road, coming towards the parking bays i indicated (because im good like that! :D) as i went to pull in some tit on a cycle decided to undertake! good thing i park at a tight angle so i had come to almost a complete stop before i turned in or he would have t-boned me :w00t: i wouldnt have minded ‘accidently’ edging my front wheel into his path but sadly i missed
With all road users, especially cyclists, you have to anticipate what they are going to do next. Cyclists rarely do lifesaves so if you approach one that looks like they might want to swerve into your path to overtake something, they probably will, so give them loads of space or slow right down, whichever is safest for you to do at the time.
Some cyclists are almost as bad as the BMW 4x4 lot!
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think cyclists should do a test and pay road tax. At the end of the day, they are the only percentage of road users that don’t pay or hold a ‘licence’ for the vehicle they use on the Queens highways!
it’s absolutely amazing how some of these people manage to survive. It’s drummed into us bikers about lifesavers etc. Some cyclists seem to think they are immune from accidents or even road laws sometimes. Bonkers !!!
I have mirrors on the end of my RHS handlebars on both my road bike and my MTB. Cannot understand why the vast majority of people riding cycles on busy roads don’t have them. After all, they are only a few quid.
Havnt cycled for years now, in fact since I was a youngster but I know that when I did I used all my senses to keep myself alive. Hearing is just one of those that help you know that theres something behind or coming up to you, and thats whether theres traffic or not. Still do it on when im on the motorbike
Had a cyclist who tried to cut across from the opposite side of the road this morning going through Plumstead. I blipped the throttle and he dived back to the pavement. Stopped at the red traffic lights just down the road and he catches up and gives me a dirty look. Next time I shall let the car behind me squish him…
last night going down old kent road by the asda, some right f***ing twat on a bike pulls into my lane (i’m in the lane to turn right) does not look then sticks his arm out to indicate he is goin right nearly smacking me in the face as he was so close to me now…
anyway i shout at him, but of course it is my fault for being there 1st!! I stop the bike he gives it some, telling me to f*** off, he is lucky there were cars behind me waiting to go as I was about to lamp him…
and if you are reading this you wait till I see you next time you C**T I will not be so polite!
what p!sses me off I’m polite to cyclists I will actually make way for them as at least you can hear me comming most are also give a nod back.
as always though it is the few that spoil it for the many!
Had a cyclist in front of me filtering between lanes up the hill to the Whalebone Lane junction on the A12 this morning, and when he twigged I was filtering behind him at 15mph managed to speed up to 20 up hill till he could slot in between the cars and let me past. Outstanding effort, thanks mate!
So glad that I dont do a commute into London anymore, this happens a lot and I agree with RobC about the bmw 4x4 lot, haha.
Having said that on my commute to southend essex this morning, I was going down the A127 this morning, dual carriage way, filtering progressively but slowly through the cars at stand still (honestly buy a bloody bike haha) when with out warning a 13yr old schoolgirl walked across the road between the pretty much parked cars, with no looking, and an ipod on so no chance of hearing my v-twin thumping. Scared the brown stuff out of my coz it was so sudden because she walked between a coach and a lorry, so i had no chance of seeing her except when she was in my line of fire so to speak. Pulled on the brakes and managed to stop a metre before impact, she carried on walking without ever knowing i was there.
Going to call the school as right above her head there was an overpass where she could have walked and 500 yards down in the direction she was walking anyway was a green man crossing.
