Best way to polish front pipes?

Any tips for polishing up my Hornets front pipes?

Heard of fine wire wool which I’m a bit scared of trying or elbow grease and autosol, what do you think?

Fine wire wool would be fine to get the worst off and then Autosul and a large dose of elbow grease should be ok for the finish. Probably easiest if you remove the header pipes from the bike.

When i do mine fine wire wool soaked in T-cut works quite well

limescale remover,as used in toilets (harpic).im not kidding! dab it on the pipes and it will remove all the scale build up,try not to get it on any paint work .

not really one for all that “elbow grease” stuff , but alloy wheel cleaner (Comma) from Halfords, is just spray on, leave it a bit and wash off, won’t get it all off but a lot less work.

Cheers Mark.

Great, I might have a go this weekend then, I’ve already used “Wonder Wheels” which is ok but still got some bronze staining to get off, I like the idea of the limescale remover but I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be the elbow grease and Autosol that’s going to do it…

you dont need elbow grease with the limescale remover it just makes the scale deposits foam up and you just wash it off,

I’m going to give that a go then, any brand?

Harpic linescale remover in the blue bottle with the bendy duck type end to it,squeeze some on to a cloth then dab it on to the dirty area,it will foam up, leave it for a couple of minutes then wash off, dont use it on anything else other than the stainless front down pipes .

I used to get the worst off with a little wd40 on a rag, rubbing it in hard and then auto solve on another cloth. If you keep this up every couple of weeks, that won’t be long enough to conjure up enough rust to have to use wire wool as it does scratch a little. And after you have been using wire wool for a long time it shows eventually. Just my personal preference…

+1 on the alloy wheel cleaner stuff. Used to spend a little over an hour using autosol and elbow effort. Then I thought I’d dab some ‘wonder wheels’ on em to see how they came up. Left it for a few mins then simply rinsed off with water (no elbow effort at all!) and they came up gleaming.

Finished to perfection with a quick buff with autosol.
