Best way place to mount spare car sat nav...

Update: Spoke to Bob Telfer and was so impressed by him and what he said that I immediately ordered a Ram & fitting kit for my Garmin. He’ll ream out a top nut (30mm domed) that I’m sending him and fit the Ram to it. Now arrived - lovely job & piece of kit. Very impressed.

Original post:
I’ve got a spare sat nav, either a Garmin Nuvi or a Navigon 2110 Max, and I’m thinking of using it on my Triumph TT600.

I’ve got a choice of several locations:
a. Fixed under the fairing alongside the instrument cluster (it’ll fit behind the headlight unit either with or without moving the cluster sideways a little) where it’ll be shaded but will need a bit of time to fit.
b. On a RAM mount (but there isn’t one advertised for my bike) where I’m worried about glare.
c. In a pouch such as the Givi one but again I’m worried about glare or reflections.

Alas, none of my mates have got a sat nav fit on their bikes and the dealers always say that what they’re selling is the best (funny that) so I’ve no reliable info :hehe:.

Anyone any experience to give a proper recommendation?

Cheers for any help.

Thanks, guys.
a. Under the fairing is an unusual option as most bikes don’t have the free space there (the tt600 doesn’t have any fancy inner fairing panels) and I think I can do a permanent fix.
b. I’m confident I can get a RAM to fit even if I have to replace the domed nut with a standard nut and I’ve emailed Bob Telfer (I love this option, fancy being able to invite people back to my place to look at my Telferizer…).
c. There are several pouches out there, of which the Givi and the So Easy Rider seem to be the best, and I’ll choose between them if this option comes out the best.

I don’t know the bike that well, but did a quick google of the instrument panel and it appears that you have a nut where the yolks are, as opposed to my bike that has a hole there, which is where the RAM mount goes.

That is probably why it is not advertised as fitting your bike, it is generally a universal fitting, but it does require a hole there.

Now I have heard that you can drill that nut, I saw photos on another website, but I am not sure that is the best option.

said it before and prolly say it again…TELFERIZER.COM ring Bob tell him bike, satnav make jobs a good un

glare not too much of an issue I use a car one on my bike like many others do without problems

I used this - http://londonbikers.com/articles/11439/sat-nav-on-your-bike-its-so-easy - on the way down to Barcelona on my XB.
I guess there was a bit of glare, but there will always be as you are looking at a glass/ plastic surface which is inherently reflective, but then I was also listening to directions, which is more helpful often IMO.

At least my crappy Nuvi is nice and dry after the torrential rains I experienced.
