best supersports 125 bike??

alreet peeps

on wednesday mornin at aprox 2.13am i came off my scooter in hampstead…slipped on some wet leaves or something (the road was wet and very greasy by the way)…i started to slide…i naturally grabbed the brakes (suicidal move i know) and i ended up poughing into the back of a parked car…the car was fine…a few key-like scratches on the rear bumper…but my scooter on the other hand took a reet beatin…the front was all smashed in and the frame or forks are bent…i know that if the frame is bent then its a write off…

so with that im confident its a write off so ive been looking for a new bike…a real bike…a geared one…ive only a CBT so i can only have upto a 125…and i think ive found one…from metropolis in lambeth…

Aprilla RS 125

black n red with racing stickers

about £3799 (just over £100p.c.m for 3 yrs) £100 deposit

1 previous owner

cheers,

joHn:P

(P.S-and as for me…i have a severly injured pride…a groin strain and a banged elbow…nothin too bad)

Speak with this guy - Kelvin - he deals with loads of supersport 125’s, mainly cagivas, but he always has a couple of good’uns in stock:

He is a good guy and I bought my thundercat from him years ago with no problems, and a good price!

nice 1 matey pips

cheers,

This in my opinion is the sexiest 125 ever made!

Yeah them Yam R125s do look very nice for a little bike :w00t:

To the original poster - before buying anything do some dummy insurance quotes, might end up playing a major part in your decision

if u want a 2stroke [more power but on CBT not nescessary] then yeah the RS is a good option. Insurance will be high as they are sought after by teenagers and also check in the “bikes” section as a nice example was on sale for much cheaper.

http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic435045-39-1.aspx

if you are on CBT you will need to restrict it…you cant just ride any 125cc unfortunately, it has to be either a 4 stroke 125cc or a restricted 2 stroke 125cc as they ususally have twice the power.

Personally i went for the CBR125R just because its not as high maintenance as a 2 stroke engine which will need a fair amount of TLC depending on how much the previous owner may have destroyed it and also how right-wrist-happy you are and. mine also has cheaper insurance and better economy. [personally i like the sound of mine more but u choose wot u like!]

good post! wot he said! but dont forget teh cagiva planet(mito engine) but straight bars, great city bike, or teh aprillia touno 125;)

for that much money i’d do my DAS and get a Y reg CBR6

Bummer about the off, but you’re making the right choice coming to manual bikes

+1

Not being nasty, but I don’t really see the point of sportsbike-styled 125s, off track anyway.

Surely it would make more sense to wait and save the money (if you can) and put it towards the greater expense of a larger capacity bike and the protection, accessories and insurance.

If you can afford to spend that much, then go for it, but there surely isn’t going to be a vast difference in performance between the different types of 125cc bike out there.
As far as I am concerned, 125 time is roadcraft learning time.

As regards performance etc, it all really kicks off when you pass your test!

having a 125 is all about learning the skills u need to take ur das i think.

i had 2 rs125s(i was 17 and alot lighter than i am now:P:)) the performance from them was mindblowing even when restricted. BUT their extremely fragile need only the best 2stroke oil(castrol r) a top end rebuild can cost upwards of £500 i found that out the hard way

electircs played up on my last one had to replace the whole loom:(

i think their insurance group 7… and i was paying £800 third party only @ the age of 17:w00t:

if u want the rs then get it u wont be dissapointed by the performance of it.

there are cheaper ones out there but most have been thrashed to within in ince of their lives so search around and don`t be afraid to walk away

It reall depends what you want from a 125. If you want all the looks and something that goes … like a 125 then I suppose you might as well get the RS.

If you want something to get on and pass your test with then I’d got for a cheaper trail bike. The wide bars and upright position mean you can control it and the plastics tend to be more drop resistant. Get one for about £500-750 spend the rest on gear … bike gear not puff … pass your test and you’ll be able to sell the bike on for £500-750. If you do cash it the most you’ll loose is the money you’d paid for it … and the RS is a lot more money.

This is an older biker’s approach and I do realise it’s not what I would have wanted to hear as teenager … but then again I got a H100 to learn on and bought a RD350 F2 whenI passed the test.

.
+1 old DT125’s are great learner bikes, or a four stroke Honda XR125.

I would forget all this sports bike stuff. Go for a Husky SM125R. Nice supermoto bike that if you chuck it down the road costs nothing to repair. No expensive panels to dent and great styling. Also brilliant to ride in London, high up, good visability and very very good fun.

not sure about the bike but do you really want to saddle yourself with a 3 year loan on a bike that you’ll probably outgrow next summer…

get a cheaper bike and do your direct access

+1Gotta agree with Chen, i don’t think its the best idea getting strapped into a 3 year loan deal for something that you will almost certainly want to change within a year for something bigger and obviously complete your DAS.Save your money get your DAS out the way and buy a reasonable bike then. Will be worth it in the long run.

buy summat cheap n cheerful, that you dont mind dropping etc if your gonna be using it to learn on, or save up and do ya DAS, thats a lot of money to spend on a 125 you will tire of very quickly

If the bike’s got 2000 miles on it then I’d expect it to be a bit cheaper. The list price for a new RS125 is around that sort of figure.

In fact, you can get them a bit cheaper for a new bike:

cheers for all the advise my pedigree chums…i decided to go n do a manual CBT (without certificate) just so i get geared bike experiance before i get a manual 125…and as for the choice of bike…ive gone for a 2005 CBR125 R ,5050 miles for £1499…full service before it leaves with a brand new 2 yr warrenty included…im getting it from UK Motorcylcles store down in shepards bush (oppesite the market,in the railway arches down the side of the station)…seem like good friendly people in there. i should be getting it on monday 3rd nov (providing the cheque i need to pay for it with has cleared into my bank account by then…i payed it in on monday).

(P.S-ill post pics up a.s.a.p and providing i get on monday/tuesday…ill be at the meet at borough market (if its still held there) to show off my new pride & joy:D hehe so hopefully ill see some of you lot down there!)

cheers,
