You have to try and get your head around Italian politics to understand why Berlusconi is there. Still.
No one particularly cares that he’s a corrupt buffoon (allegedly),'cos no one in Italy cares too much about national politics. To have an object of fun and a bit of a loose canon just makes things a bit more interesting.
The real power politics in Italy are the parish council, the local council and the regional council in decending order. So national stuff is low monkey on the tree.
