I’ve decided to start getting more security for my bike. I’ve just got the y-anchor installed yesterday and it should be ready to use from today. I was wondering what else I should get to make it more difficult to stop people stealing my bike? I have an immobilizer but no alarm. The alarm will cost me £200 fitted from Yamaha. Should I get this next or should I get something else?
This is purely my opinion, but no, its not worth it for that money, but do get an alarm.
The immobilisor is the main issue, an alarm is just to alert you if in earshot, but otherwise dont rely on passers by to care. How often these days do you hear an alarm. No one cares any more as they go off all the time and people see them as a nuisance.
IMO I would stick to the immobilisor that you have fitted along with the locks/chains etc, and then fit a cheap alarm that will do the business.
I got one of these off fleabay - Cyclone Alarm
Easy to fit yourself and extremely loud - louder than a £300 datatool one I had fitted to one of my old bikes anyway.
The quality is also quite nice, especially considering its 20 quid.
I wont go into how they are wired for obvious reasons - they are certainly not what I’d call Thatcham standards, but they will easily do the business and alongside your current immobilisor will make a great combination.
Also consider a tracker.
The monitor series alerts you by phone I beleive if the bikes moved even a small distance
Might also be worth NOT mentioning the fact that your bike has no alarm! :hehe:
I am taking the Datatool piece of sh*t off my Hayabusa when I get back form France, it’s a waste of space/battery juice, has the potential to ruin your weekend/holiday and won’t deter a proper thief anyway.
I’d get the thickest Almax chain and Squire padlock and chain the bike to your ground anchor. Will stop all but the most determined and for any normal bike they won’t bother.
A dog is a good security device.
An AK 47 is always good for solving arguments of who owns what!:D:D;)
You got one spare?
get this but for ur bike
