BCW Walk the Walk information for the 15-16th May

Safe to say that it was lost in the post. To Pskyho and anyone else who has not received there pack or email (or anyone who hasn’t signed up but still wants to come)… Bring a copy of both parts of your license and bike insurance and also a blank cheque. We will get you signed up on the morning if needs. If you can send of your details this week then please do so however. Will be one less thing for team leaders to do on the morning.

Sorry for my late reply, it’s been a busy weekend. Firstly my extended thanks to Barro for making this all possible. Regardless of what you might think of him he has a heart of gold at the core and has done a lot for Cancer charity’s involving LB in the past and hopefully will do in the future. It’s a shame a number of nameless individuals behind the scenes can’t put there differences aside in the name of charity and feel it necessary to hamper his efforts to make this a success. It was in the overwhelming stress of these individuals (and sketchy communication/information from the Moonwalk team) that he decided pull the plug and call it a night on Thursday night. Mike and myself spoke on Friday morning and have decided to carry on Barros work to save face with Walk the Walk, you guys and girls who are giving up your time and money to do this and the several companies that are supporting us that Mike and myself have got on board for this event.

It’s for those reasons we are carrying on what Barro has started and for no other reason. I know Mike and myself have no intention of stealing the limelight for this event, we just don’t want let anyone down, no one more so than the walkers taking part in the event.

I will not publicly reply to anyone who has a problem with what I have just said. If anyone wants to PM me, that’s fine. I know there are rumours about poison pen emails and the like… right now, I couldn’t give a siht…I’m getting on with the job in hand and trying desperately to salvage this event with Mike and make it the success it deserves to be. I hope we can all agree on that and work together?.

By now you have read the email from Amy at WTW. It’s not what were used to from previous events but ultimately doing what we do best…beating the traffic and supporting the walkers along the route. Depending on how many of us turn up to this we are still planning to Marshal in pairs and we should all have 2-way radios from my friends at Ears plc to stay in touch on.

What I need at the moment is a show of hands if your still gain for this. We need a minimum of 10 really although it will be embarrassing for me and Mike turning up with so few. Ideally, the 20 who were signed up before and any more we can get. Please post up a clear, easy to read message “I’ll see you on Sunday”

Although were not needed to sign in till 5am I’m hoping we can meet up for a coffee, fag and a chat around 4am. Place to be confirmed but I’m looking into the nearby Edgware Rd that has several (hopefully open) coffee shops. The staging point for us to park up at is Cumberland Gate end of North Carriage Drive. Google Maps Although were not currently allowed in to the park on the bikes, the area I’m looking at is outside the gates of the parks boundary, so we shouldn’t be harassed. Although I still want us to meet around 4-4.30am the place will be confirmed later in the week.

Please check your bikes over on Fri/Sat. Oil, Coolant, Chain tension+lube, tyres, tyre pressures, all lights including brake and turn signals. Please fill your tanks before you arrive on Sunday morning!.
If you have a topbox/tank bag you might want to bring along the following with you. A+Z, flask of tea coffee, water, energy bars/biscuits snacks, redbull to get you through the early hours. Any medication your on (obviously) cash, sunglasses, asprin, camera, waterproofs if your in leathers.

If you smoke, bring fags/baccie however we have been told by Moonwalk that we are not to smoke while in uniform, in sight of the walkers. It’s fair enough really.

I’ll keep you updated this week. Thanks for your patience and continued support it means a lot to the planning team and it will mean a lot to the walkers.

great to know others feel the same as me and want to carry on with it regardless.i shall c u there

Sorry, I think I’m out of this now. I really appreciate all the hard work that has gone into this, but I would not have volunteered to sign up to be a foot marshal, which seems that’s what we are now.

Moonwalk can keep my cheque (if they ever got it) and best of luck to you guys that are still going down there.

Think you have the wrong idea mate, they could have worded it better TBH.

When they say ‘foot marshal’ they mean we will ride out to a problem spot or a pedestrian crossing that is under manned, park up the bikes roadside and then assist the walkers as they cross over the junction (pelican/zebra). At no point will we be walking any distance other than is required to get the walkers safely across the particular junction you are manning. All 10 meters at best. Once the crossing closes or we are relived by other marshall teams, we then mount up and head to the next spot.

Hope this clears things up for you, we could use all the help we can get

Regards

Chaz

I will also meet somewhere at 4am.

I was just going on this part of Elad’s mail, appreciate it may be badly worded:

“We will need you to travel out to your positions by motorbike, park up and then take on the role as a foot marshal until you are stood down by your local Team Leader. Once your Team Leader has stood you down you can ring our Vounteer Hotline who will be able to tell you if we need you to move to another route position.”

Ringing up to find out IF we’re needed to move does not sound encouraging. If I’m wrong, then I apologise, but I’d rather not take the risk of going down there at 5am. There’s been too much miscommunication - not from you guys, you’ve been great.

We are a ‘Support team’ mate. We will be used to fill gaps that open through the regular Marshall teams. Only two (at most four) marshals are needed per crossing. Even if there is only one crossing we need to man we will be rotating our own team on that crossing, meaning you will only be on one point for 30mins or so. The others will be on or near the bikes ready to move out if we get a call on the radios. At no point will we be deploying 20 Londonbikers on one crossing!

If that’s not reassurance enough, maybe it just wasn’t meant to be…

I’m still gonna be there and will meet up. I’m coming from Slough so if the meeting point is to far North of Hyde Park I’ll just meet you on the road on the way down to it.

I hope they have big enough tops for a beached whale like me to wear!

Just had a look for parking near site there is a few places.
Going to give it another go at stupid o’clock on Friday night when parking restictions
in place so we know where we can

Im local , so if you need someone to recce the area to save you guys from going out of your way let me know.

"I’ll see you on Sunday

I live in dagenham, any one going from around here.

I reckon we are definitely going to be used, and even if we have to stand around for a bit and end up helping only one walker not get lost or disparaged from completing their mammoth task then it would be worth it for me :). But experience tells me that we will be used - come on down!

Whatever, riding around london at that time in the morning is a brilliant laugh!!

See you on Sunday…

Has the meeting place for coffee before the 5am meet in Hyde Park been confirmed yet?

Looking forward to this!
