We all know by now that LIDL was doing some biker deals so I just wanted to let you all know what I think of the items I purchased.1.) Back protector (£16.99) - I was very surprised by the quality of this item. Quite heavy duty (as it should be) and the finish on it (Stitches etc) looked second to none. Its even CE approved to class 2 (which is better than 1 strangely enough = for every 50J of force, only 9J pass through to wearer)!!!
2.) 2 way intercom (£5.99)- I bought this same item last year and promptly lost it after never using it. This year its a quid more but at least you get phone attachments so you can go hands free with your phone as well as talking to your pillion. Not tried it yet but looks good and - well,…for 5.99 i dont expect it to be brilliant.
3.) Tank Bag (£16.99) - Came with a rain cover and it even turns into a backpack - something which my previous £45 one didnt do!! Again - quality looks good and magnets plenty strong enough. It even comes with a padlock!!!
When I went into the shop there were lots of bikers doing the same as I was so i’d hurry up down to LIDL’s if I were you!!
Yea, just as I got there, someone nabbed the last Alarmed Disc Lock, but also got the back protector, tank bag (very strong magnets, tough and bags of space!!) & other goodies.
I was advised to look out for this annual Lidl ‘biker expo’ when I did my DAS and a couple of weeks after buying my bike last year (Feb), was the 2007 LiDL extravaganza…I bought the tankbag - which gets used every day for commuting as well as on weekend trips, etc and is amazing value and no problems at all with the quality! In fact better than the Oxford pannier bags that I paid £100 for!!!
Got some biker legins - with some kind of technology in the material to keep knees and thighs from wind and cold-tank exposure - again, these are excellent.
Bike Cover - took this back the next day as the stitching came apart along one of the seems the first time I used it - no questions - money-back = sorted…
Think I bought some more stuff but not sure what - wouldn’t recommend buying a lid there as they are not exactly on their own boxed shelf and treated with the upmost care as would be the case at a bike shop, but for other items of gear, IMHO (and experience) well worth a look…
Cool, but a question with tank bag magnets, will they wipe the Chips on your credit cards? just in case you have them in your jacket pocket an lean onto your tank bag… could be bad…
I actually have my wallet in the side pocket of the tank-bag (approx 1in from the magnets) and have done so from day 1 as do I my mobile and not a problem matey…I also like the fact that one of the side pockets/compartments unzips totally from the bag so you can use this seperately or just take it with you when paying for petrol for instance… AND the main bag unzips from the magnetic section with ruchsack straps attached leaving behind a clear plastic window for you to pop a map/route list in for a journey where you don’t need to take the bag, with the same clear plastic window also on the bag itself…OK - enough already, so you all get the point that I’m rather pleased with the purchase!!!:hehe:
Scratch my question…Just done the googling. So they are a supermarket. Strange, I’ve never seen one. Checked the website and they seem to have a bunch of stuff for m/bikes which I’ve never seen in a Waitrose!!!Don’t think I’d trust a £19.99 helmet or £16.99 back protector though. The thermal gear and non-safety stuff looks okay I suppose
Back protector is very legitimate - been reading about its testing in the book that came with it.Either LIDL is lying or we’ve been robbed blind for years by the like sof Hein Gericke & Co. BluBhoy is right, the attention to detail on that tank bag is amazing. I guess makes that have to prove their worth always try harder. The ONLY thing I would knock it down on (if I had to) would be that in my opinion the Zip pulls are a little thin - cable ties anyone?!
Most of things you can find there are the clones of high-street brands. Last year I’ve bought a jacket for my missus and it looks very-very similar to my old HG. They use same fabrics and it survived 6 hours in heavy rain. Dunno how about other stuff but clothing seems fine. Anoyone checked that walkie-talkie yet?
