British Airways introduces Heavy Bag Charge
ATP has been advised by British Airways that they will be introducing a Heavy Bag Charge (HBC). This charge is applicable for any piece of HOLD bag weighing between 23kgs and 32kgs at all British Airways operated stations and on all routes. The Heavy Bag Charge will come into effect on 26th November 2008.
In addition to the above there will be changes to the Excess baggage rates and conditions of carriage as of 1st September 2008.
Key changes for Heavy Bag Charge:
Customers who check in bags that exceed their piece allowance (23kg per piece) will be charged a flat rate of £25 per bag from 26th November 2008.
The Heavy Bag Charge can only be paid at the airport.
No bag weighing over 32kgs will be accepted for carriage.
Key changes for Excess Baggage Charge:
Excess baggage charges will increase by 20% when paid for at the airport and online
Customers will receive a 20% discount when they pre pay online prior to checking in.
New Online Excess Baggage rates will be:
UK domestic flights £20 one-way (previously £16)
All other short haul £28 one-way (previously £24)
Long haul £72 one-way (previously £60)
Customers paying excess baggage charges at the airport will pay:
UK domestic £25 one-way (previously £20)
All other shorthaul £35 one-way (previously £30)
Long haul £90 one-way (previously £75)
The maximum excess baggage allowance per customer will be 10 bags; this comes into effect from 1st September 2008. Customers will need to use the British Airways cargo facilities if they exceed their excess baggage allowance
