I’m off to Catford in a mo for 2 new tyres at £230.
The bad news though is overtaken by the good news.
I got a letter today from Devitt, my Insurers, which reads…
“Unfortunatley the underwritter of your policy (NIG) is ceasing to offer motorcycle Insuranceand we are, therefore, unable to offer renewal, In addition we have not been able to find alternative policy cover for you from our panel of Insurers”.
Ok F*ck you I thought and put all my details in “Go Compare”.
The cheapest quote (and almost a 3rd of what I’m paying now) was from, yes you guessed it “Devitt”.
I phoned and it turns out that NIG are no longer doing multi policies and as i have now added a moped that’s the reason for the letter.
I also asked why some, much less than I’m paying now, this was put down to a years no claims, I guess my 9 points from 2006 are off now or very soon.
So my next years cover for Tango will be around £133 compared to £444 last year.
I know that’s not exactly cheap for 3PT&T but I did have a 10 month old V Strom stolen just over a year ago
I can’t ride around on bald tyres so all in all I’m happy.
It just goes to show it’s always worth shopping around at renewal time.
I was going to go for Avon Storms but they don’t do a front in Wee size.
110/80VR19 Metzeler Roadtec Z6 59V - £63.34
150/70ZR17 Metzeler Roadtec Z6 69W - £83.34
Wheel Removal - £23.34
Wheel Balance - £10.00
Tubeless Valves - £4.00
Tyre Disposal - £3.00
VAT - £37.40
Total - £224.42
I’m not saying this is cheap but I like Watling tyres which is why I rode half way round London to use them.
Let us know how the roadtecs are, I’m trying to decide between them and sportecs. Price seems good, although that may be due to smaller tyre size…
Jools runs those Z6 Roadtecs on her ZX6, and they’re pretty good - seem to get plenty of wear and they offer plenty of grip for fast road riding
If I were you I’d avoid Watling tyres

Just my own personal experience with them
Sorry to hear about your experience Jeff.
I’ve used them half a dozen times in the last 2 years and never had any concerns, when I phoned the other day I spoke to the manager who was quite knowledgable about my particular bike and help me choose my tyres.
I’m usually pretty positive and jolly, maybe it rubs off on them.
